AFC Teams Needs!!!

AFC
In part 2 of this series we will look at the AFC team by team and examine who needs what in order to improve. Some teams have huge holes to fill while others some light patchwork. One thing to keep in mind, just because a team is not very good doesn’t mean that they have holes to fill. They could have the players in place and now just need some time to groom them. This also works in reverse, good teams may have some aging players and the time is now to start looking for a replacement. Without further ado, let’s breakdown the AFC! Read more

Dez Bryant has his pro day for the scouts

It was the most important Pro Day in the state of Oklahoma since…Monday. The day after Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford took part in a crucial Pro Day in front of NFL scouts and coaches, Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant was on a similar display for NFL representatives. But the reports were not as glowing over Bryant as they were for Bradford.

The Texans have retained their defensive captain, signing middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans to a six-year, $48 million contract The deal, which Texans general manager Rick Smith and agent Ben Dogra negotiated, calls for Ryans to receive $21.75 million guaranteed, with a $7.5 million signing bonus.

Ryan, 26, will make at least $26.3 million in the first three years, which could be more if he makes the Pro Bowl.
Ryans, who was unable to land a long-term contract with the Texans last season, would have been a fifth-year restricted free agent making $3.168 million next season.

A former second-round draft pick behind defensive end Mario Williams in 2006, Ryans had 123 tackles last season. He has been a starter in Houston since his first game.

Chad Ochocinco: “Were going streaking”

How do you bring attention to a new sneaker that you are trying to market…well you grab two well known athletes and have them work out in your shoes “naked”, that’s what Reebok did this month. And it’s a strategy that, for now, appears to be working. A video of NFL’s own Ochocinco popped up online, shot in a similar style to Chuck Liddell’s. Chad was running naked In a forest. With the ZigTech shoes on his feet.

I can’t help but think of Will Ferrell’s scene from Old School after checking out this video. “We’re going streaking!” LMAO

Reebok is slowly creeping back into the public consciousness, thanks to some other slick new shoes — the EasyTone, which is marketed at women looking to tone their bodies, and the ZigTech, a so-called revolutionary shoe that the company said causes 20 percent less wear and tear on leg muscles — and the help of some Web buzz.

Bradford looks like a Beast at his Pro Day

Theres probably no one who has a better take on Sam Bradford than Terry Shea. Shea, is a veteran college and NFL coach, who has been working with Bradford as his consultant heading into Monday’s workout. Shea described Bradfords work out this way: “Lights out.”

A few moments later, he described it this way: “Phenomenal.”

Bradford threw 63 passes under the spotlight of NFL talent evaluators Monday, his first public workout with his surgically repaired right shoulder. Bradford began with 13 stationary throws before moving on to the scripted 50-pass portion of the workout. According to Shea, one ball hit the ground.

“I’ve never seen a performance like this,” Shea said. “A lot of people came up to me and said it’s as good a work out as they’ve ever seen.”

That is to be expected, as the scripted workouts showcase skills in a familiar setting. It’s meant to look good. What’s most important for Bradford — the potential top overall pick by the Rams — is answering any lingering questions surrounding the health of his shoulder.

Bradford's senior season was cut short due to injury

Bradford's senior season was cut short due to injury

Shea has had a first-hand look at Bradford over the last eight weeks. He explained that Bradford underwent a rehab program at the Andrews Performance Institute (API) for two to three weeks, followed by three or four weeks of medical review in which he threw three times a week for about 20 minutes. Starting soon after the NFL Scouting Combine, Shea worked with Bradford for just more than four weeks, watching him throw 100 passes a day for five and sometimes six days a week.

“I don’t see any shoulder issue at all,” Shea said of Monday’s workout. “He’s a tireless worker. I don’t see any glitch in his mechanics. He’s as consistent as I ever thought he would be.”
One important nugget that came out of our conversation was that Bradford didn’t show any fatigue during the workout — a sign he was diligent in his rehab. Not only would it signal his health, but it would give NFL teams a strong indication of his work ethic.

“I saw this almost every day,” Shea said of what scouts saw for the first time Monday. “There were some days where we were outside and the wind was a factor, but once I was with him this week in Norman, I started to see this almost every day. The more he gets into the fatigue of the drill, the stronger he gets.”

Among the NFL peeps there to check out Bradford were Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren and San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary. The Seahawks control the sixth and 14th picks, the Browns pick seventh, and the 49ers have the 13th and 16th selections.

“He hit every ball, he was dead on it and looked great,” Carroll said of Bradford. “This is what you’d hope happens, and he did a beautiful job.”

Bradford won the Heisman Trophy in 2008 after throwing for 4,720 yards and 50 touchdowns with just eight interceptions while leading the Sooners to the BCS national championship game. No player in NCAA history has thrown more than Bradford’s 86 TD passes through his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Donovan McNabb: Where will he end up now?

mcnabbtraded1

The Donovan McNabb trade (and non-trade) speculation shows no signs of slowing.

As the Eagles presumably continue to explore offers, and the Raiders and Bills continue to be considered the front-runners, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday that if McNabb is traded, he prefers the Vikings. That was soon followed by one of the most concrete reports we’ve seen thus far, as McNabb’s agent, Fletcher Smith, told Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News that he has no reason to believe a trade is imminent, and there have been no conversations with the Eagles about which teams McNabb prefers.

That being said, we know McNabb said Wednesday that he prefers to stay with the Eagles. But he might not have that choice.
As the rumor mill churns, let’s take a look at some reports (in no particular order for you conspiracy theorists) of the possible destinations for McNabb:

6-0

Minnesota: The Vikings have been connected to McNabb, dating to last offseason, given his history with coach Brad Childress. But the Vikings are waiting for an answer from a certain No. 4, who tends not to make quick decisions. Judd Zulgad of the Star Tribune reported Friday that the Vikings aren’t in the McNabb mix, via a source at the NFL Annual Meeting earlier this week. Zulgad also offered this from Childress, who was asked about potential interest in McNabb on Wednesday: “Not as of right now. I’m not going to tell you that we won’t add another quarterback to our roster or another two quarterbacks to our roster depending on which quarterback shows up and which doesn’t or which couple or three show up and which don’t. That’s all down-the-road stuff.”

Oakland_Raiders_PHelmet2Oakland: NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported Wednesday that several executives on other clubs pointed to the Raiders as the team in heaviest pursuit of McNabb. The Oakland Tribune’s Steve Corkran reported Thursday that two Raiders employees were “unaware” of the team contacting the Eagles.

SanFrancisco49ersPHelmetOldSan Francisco: According to McLane’s report Friday, McNabb would be open to joining the 49ers.

Buffalo_Bills_Very_Old_PHelmetBuffalo: It has been eerily quiet here. No denials. Columnist Bob DiCesare suggests in The Buffalo News that McNabb’s refusal to sign an extension makes it easier for the Bills to eliminate him as an option. NFL.com senior columnist Vic Carucci noted during his live chat Friday that the organization believes Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick will fare better under new coach Chan Gailey[‘s direction. Carucci doesn’t have “any hard evidence” that the Bills are pushing for a McNabb trade.

St_Louis_Rams_PHelmetSt. Louis: Steve Spagnuolo squashed reports that the Eagles had an offer on the table from the Rams, according to the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, and general manager Billy Devaney told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the rumors were “utterly ridiculous.” Pretty definitive there.

Arizona_Cardinals_PHelmet2Arizona: A similar story for the Cardinals, as GM Rod Graves told Darren Urban on the team’s official Web site that there was “no interest” in acquiring McNabb.

Rest of the field: Via a La Canfora report Thursday, the Seahawks, Browns, Broncos and Jaguars aren’t in the mix for McNabb.

Rex Ryan Talks about Hard Knocks

The chatty New York Jets and their brash coach, Rex Ryan, will be featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” training camp series this summer. The team announced Thursday that it was chosen by the cable channel and NFL Films for the five-episode documentary.

“We’re going to let the fans in on something that they’ve never seen up close and personal,” Jets owner Woody Johnson said. “This is going to be kind of the king’s new clothes. I think you can argue that there’s no other team in the league right now that’s kind of more interesting than the New York Jets.”
