LSU’s Chad Jones, one of the nation’s most versatile college athletes, is in “guarded” condition after a serious car crash today in New Orleans, according to TV station WAFB.

Jones, 21, suffered a fractured left leg that exposed arteries and nerves, and doctors were attempting to get blood flowing back into his foot, officials said. He was reportedly in surgery at 10:15am local time.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:15am local time Friday morning.

Jones, who recently was a third-round draft pick of the New York Giants, was a free safety on LSU’s national champions of 2007. He also was on LSU’s College World Series champions in 2009, as a pitcher.
