Steelers to Release Hines Ward

Sad day in Steelers land as the franchise has finally decided to release the 36 year old Hines Ward.

Ward was no ordinary veteran reciever, as he played 14 years for the Black and Yellow. Under his time in Pttsburgh he was a four-time Pro Bowler and is the Steelers all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. (Not too shabby folks)

Even though Ward was willing to restructure his contract, its hard to see Ward competing for a special teams role. The Steelers will focus on paying Mike Wallace rather than putting extra money else where.

The Skinny: At Hines age the problem was getting separation in the slot. When you play in the slot its all about being able to get open and that just wasn’t happening anymore. When you have a guy like Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cothcery in the mix for the Steelers, its easier for them to make this decision. Look for Ward to find a one-year opportunity at a veteran’s minimum in 2012.

Don’t sleep on Ward’s resume folks

Surprise Team Seeking Trade with Rams

SI.com’s Peter King is reporting that the Rams have received a trade “feeler” for their No. 2 pick. The kicker is that its from a team you would never expect.

If your a Eagles, Broncos or Chiefs fan you might be wondering if its your team in the mix now. The Chiefs and coach Romeo Crennel were very impressed with RGIII as well as Andy Reid, whom RGIII “really enjoyed his time with”.

The Skinny: The Eagles believe it or not have 2 pair of second-rounders as well as Asante Samuel and DeSean Jackson to throw into the mix trade wise. From a Rams perspective, those are both the positions the Rams really need help at. Jackson represents the deep threat playmaker the Rams have been looking for and Asante could lead the cornerback unit, reuniting him with former Eagle Safety Quintin Mikell to sure up the secondary.

Cowboys target Cortland Finnegan & Brandon Carr

ESPN Dallas confirms that the Cowboys will plan to bring Cortland Finnegan and Brandon Carr back to the ranch.

Pro Football Weekly also reported on Monday they are ready to pull the trigger on Brandon Carr…a guy they “covet”. Dallas has yet to be linked to Cortland Finnegan but he’s high on their list. Dallas is set to rebuild their secondary and won’t stand for anything less. Being one of the league’s worst secondaries in 2011 did not sit well with Jerry Jones.

The Skinny: Landing the top free agent corner in Finnegan will not be an easy task folks. Dallas will likely run into a bidding war for his services since Finnegan is looking for a five- to six-year deal worth at least $10 million a year. If Finnegan or Carr are signed its marks the end of Terence Newman’s tenure with the Cowboys.

The New York Daily News is reporting that the Jets are looking at bringing back Braylon Edwards in 2012 to replace Plaxico Burress.

The Jets feel Edwards’ will fill in nicely as their deep threat and with them moving towards Tony Sparano’s run orientated offense, Edwards can be used for his blocking skills as well. Edwards was released by the Niners in December after had probems dealing with shoulder injuries and a knee injury.

The Skinny: Jets will only look at Edwards if he comes into 2012 healthy and at the right price. Braylon Edwards come on down your the next contestant on the If the Price is Right!

Could Bart Scott Be a New York Giant?

The New York Daily News is reporting that the New York Jets and Bart Scott could be heading for a divorce. Team officials met with Scott’s agent at the NFL combine and Scott’s agent Harold Lewis voiced Bart’s concerns about his role in the Jets defense. Scott was “extremely frustrated” with the way he was used last season.

Lewis revealed that although a potential trade was in the talks, they didn’t request for a trade and they didn’t get permission to seek one. Scott wants to stay with the Jets and that is Scott’s “ultimate goal” for 2012.

However according to Scott’s agent, he added

“If we can’t fix what’s broken, there will be other opportunities.”

Could the New York Giants be a new home for the 32 year old linebacker? According to the Lewis that’s where he would go “in a heart beat”. New York Giants are you listening?

The Skinny: Jets are prepared to move on from Scott, however Scott is owed a guaranteed $4.2 million salary this season. There is no way around that for the Jets unless they get someone to pick up that salary for them. Since he took a $1 million dollar cut in salary in 2011, he got a guaranteed $4.2 million for this season.

Look for the Jets to trade Scott for a late pick in the late rounds of the draft, In which Scott would have to restructure the deal to make the trade happen. If Bart Scott gets cut out right that would be best case scenario, as he would collect from the Jets and also get a new contract from a new team.

With the Jets going for younger blood and a new change of attitude in the locker room, it looks like Scott’s days as a Jet are numbered.

Colts Source: “Luck is the Guy”

By Gayle Saunders

Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that one team source has said the Colts have already decided on Andrew Luck over Robert Griffin III as the No. 1 overall pick.

“Luck is The Guy,” the source insists, “I don’t care what happens [at the combine]. I don’t care if Griffin flies.” Other organizational sources tell Silver it was owner Jim Irsay — not team president Bill Polian — who stood firmly behind Peyton Manning over Ryan Leaf in the 1998 draft. Even if new GM Ryan Grigson veers toward RGIII, Irsay is expected to “step in and overrule that, too.”
