A man that carried the ball and his team, should have been the MVP but will have to settle for the record books and being the 2009 I’m a Beast winner! Chris Johnson has speed, burst and agility that now puts him on the elite level. It’s arguable who is better, Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson but for our money we are taking CJ. He is a game changer who can take it to the house from anywhere on the field. He played for most of the year on a team that wasn’t a real passing threat until Vince Young came in later on and starting making things happen. That means for the most part he faced a Defense that was geared up to stopping him and they still couldn’t do it.

2000 yards is very special. CJ joins only 5 other men in the history of the game to accomplish this feat. What’s even more remarkable is that he is only in his 2nd year in the league and will continue to get better. This season is one for the record books on two levels, 1. the 2000 yard mark and 2. Johnson surpassed Marshall Faulk’s record for Total Yards from scrimmage with 2509! Enjoy the 2009 Season highlights of the most explosive Running Back in the NFL.

The Cleveland Browns have had a tough go of it in 2009. They have gone for most of the season finding themselves on the losing end of many ballgames. They have had QB issues bouncing between Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn before finally settling on the latter. Jamal Lewis has seemed to reach a valley in his career and rookie RB James Davis was shelved for the year after a car accident injured his shoulder. Enter Jerome Harrison who has made the most of his opportunity. In Week 15, the Browns faced the Chiefs and Jerome was a one man wrecking crew. If you are a numbers guy than you will love this…34 Carries for 286 Yards with an 8.4 yards per carry average. He had a long of 71 and found the endzone 3 times. If you are a highlights guy than you will enjoy Harrison’s record setting day!
Talk about a day! Robert Meachem should be credited with keeping the Saints undefeated as he balled out! The biggest play of the day was after a Drew Brees interception, Meachem streaked to the DB and ripped the ball out of his hands and raced down the sideline for 6! Offensively he finished the game with 8 catches or 143 yards and a touchdown. His longest was 53 yards. With Robert coming into his own, the Saints add just another weapon to an already potent offense.

Hat’s off to Robert Meachem who showed the hustle, grit and determination to be this week’s “I’m a Beast”!!

The football waiting until Monday Night for the highly anticipated battle of the QB’s! Drew Brees vs Tom Brady is as good as it gets, with all due respect to Peyton Manning. Everyone wanted to see if the Saints were for real after starting off 10-0 and wondered how Brees would fair against a team that could score points as well as them. Well, Brees responded in a big, big way. He was as perfect as a QB gets in this game, finishing with 18 for 23 with 371 yards and 5 TD’s. His passes were crisp and extremely accurate. If Drew and Co’ continue to play with this precision they will be very tough to beat!

Hat’s off to Drew Brees who now has his 3rd “I’m a Beast”!!

The New England Patriots suffered their first loss of the season to the New York Jets way back at the beginning of the season. Week 2 to be exact. This time around they relied on ole #83 to carry the load and he did just that. Wes Welker caught 15 balls for 192 yards an a TD. His long was 43 yards and the Jets simply couldn’t cover him. He added 11 on an end around but did most of his damage through the air.

The Minnesota Vikings have a ton of weapons on offense and sometimes one of them will get lost in the hype of the others. With the likes of Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin it is easy to overlook a guy like Sidney Rice. Not in Week 10! Rice had the best day of his career and was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. He finished the game against the Lions with 7 catches for 201 yards for an average of 28.7! Sidney was a 2nd Round pick out of South Carolina, the state he was born and bred. With the Nickname – “Showtime” Sidney lived up to that name on Sunday.

Randy Moss didn’t have the most spectacular game of his career, stat wise. He did however change the game in many ways. Recently on Inside the NFL which airs on Showtime, Warren Sapp said that Randy Moss is the only player that made us change out of our normal Defense…in effect he broke the Tampa 2! He is a game changer and this week his 24.5 Yards Per Catch average show just that. Moss can score in the blink of an eye! Take a look at this incredible one handed catch.
Against the Miami Dolphins the game was close, it was a battle back and forth and it wasn’t really decided until late in the game.

Take a look at this big hit on Knowshon Moreno to cause an early fumble and change the momentum of the game!
Ed Reed plays the game it was meant to be played, with heart and passion and yet he has fun and a swagger like all Miami Hurricanes do. On one play as the Broncos were Punting, Reed busted off the edge and didn’t block the punt but had enough impact to disrupt it. The punt was a dud and the Ravens turned around and had excellent field position. The Baltimore Defense has been much maligned this year in but in Week 8, Reed was all over the field and the swagger was back in Owings Mills!
Hat’s off to Ed Reed who is the Week 8 “Beast of the Week”!!

When you look at hand the Pittsburgh Steelers were dealt in the 4th quarter. Your offense is stalling on you, and just fumbled on the goaline going in for the go ahead score. The score is 13-10 in favor the Steelers, and legendary Brett Favre and his trusty side kick Adrian Petersen are breathing down your necks from the 10 yard line with 6:39 to go. What do you do?

now thats team defense!

What the Pittsburgh Defense did, was they came together as one and played as a unit when they were needed most. Brett Kiesel stripped the future hall of famer Brett Favre, and reminiscent of James Harrison’s 100 yarder in the Super Bowl, Lamar Woodley picked up the ball and rumbled 77 yards for the score. Not only did he make nifty moves and use great vision, he followed the black and yellow convoy that guided him in for a safe landing. Coach Mike Tomlin called it “one of those slow-motion moments that are a joy in this business.”

The next turn of events happened with 6:12 on the clock, Steelers kicked off to rookie phenom Percy Harvin, who burst through an opening and made several people miss on the way for a electrifying 88 yard return. Momentum shifter, I’d say yes! The score is 20-17.

Steelers offense received the ball one more time only to stall once again. Close to 2:00 minutes left in the game, Legendary Brett Favre hits Adrian Peterson on a dump off pass. Adrian proceeds to run over William Gay in hulk like fashion, which brought them past the 50 yard line and deep into Steelers territory. AP is fired up, the Vikings are fired up, this games seems destined for typical Favre heroics.

1:13 is left on the clock and the Vikings are on the 19. Favre drops back and dumps it off to Chester Taylor, however he couldn’t hold on to the ball and it lands in the hands of LB Keyaron Fox, who returned it for 82 yards for a touchdown, making it 27-17!

Defense wins championships

With a tenacious defense that gives you that kind of effort week in and week out, it come to no surpise thats Steelers are never out of any game. Beast of the Week goes to…. Pittsburgh Defense!
