In this segment of Fantasy Focus we are going to look at the top 5 Wide Receivers heading into 2010! Some names might surprise you while others you simply knew it was coming. You might even be shocked by a name not on the list! Taking everything into consideration, here we go!

1. Andre Johnson – Andre is quite simply the best Wide Receiver in all of football. He goes about his business quietly and professionally. To wit, he has asked for more money but still voluntarily shows up for the Texans Organized Team Activities. The things that jump out that put him tops on this list is another year with QB Matt Schaub helps and as we just noted, he wants more money. That means he is going to ball out and show even more that he can do what other Wide Receivers simply can’t! He is definitely, without a doubt, the 1st Wide Out taken!

The Beast should have a big year in South Florida!

2. Brandon Marshall – Yes, you might think this is a bit high for the Beast but I don’t. There are some reasons – First off Wes Welker is coming off major Knee injury and might start the year on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list so he’s out at #2. Secondly, Marshall has a legitimate Running game for the first time in his career. The R&R Railroad of Ricky and Ronnie make Safeties stay honest and Henne to Marshall is going to be a solid connection. Brandon can and will stretch the field but look for more intermediate routes as the Phins stay mildly cautious with their young QB. Marshall has caught over 100 balls in each of the last 3 seasons and he goes to a better offense with a stronger armed QB than he had in 2009. He signed a big contract and will look to prove all the doubters wrong about him. Except for me, who doesn’t doubt!

3. Reggie Wayne – The guy who goes about his business quietly and produces nothing but numbers comes in at number 3. Reggie Wayne still has the best pure passer in the League in Peyton Manning and you know the production will be there. The 4 time Pro Bowler is coming off his 2nd 100 Catch season and the numbers for Wayne are consistent! He’s a gamer week in and week out and the Colts look for him near and in the Red Zone. Couple that with the fact that he’s started every game since 2002 and you have a guy you can really rely on in your Fantasy league. You can’t go wrong with Reggie Wayne!

4. Larry Fitzgerald – I know that Larry is in the Top 2 Wide Receivers in the NFL as far as talent and ability. He’s a guy that anyone would take on their team and usually the 1st or 2nd name taken when asked the question, “Who’s the best NFL WR?” However, the issue of QB play has to be asked and the loss of Kurt Warner is going to hurt Fitzgerald’s production, a little. He’s still the go to guy and still going to get his looks but the entire structure of the offense is going to change. The feeling here is that the Cardinals are going to run the ball more with 2nd Year RB, Beanie Wells. Hence the move for Alan Faneca along the O-Line. They simply aren’t going to throw the ball 50 times a game and because of that Larry’s production may slip. Couple that with the fact that Anquan Boldin is in Baltimore and now if I’m a Defensive Coordinator I roll coverage to Larry’s side and make the other guys beat you. He’s still a Top 5 guy but not at #2 where he would have been had Warner stayed another season.

Moss and Brady are heading into a contract year, lookout!

5. Randy Moss – Let’s face it, the guy who will benefit most from Welker’s time away will be Edelman catching the underneath slot balls but also looking to see more balls come his way is Randy Moss and honestly, the guy can still play at a high level. But the biggest reason that we think Moss will have a monster year comes from the fact that it’s a contract year for Randy and Tom Brady! Moss and Brady are set to be Unrestricted Free Agent in 2011 and 2010 just may be their last chance to earn it big on the open market. Plus, it also helps that QB Tom Brady is a year removed from major Knee surgery. The 1st season after major surgery is always tough and Brady showed signs of that last season. This year however he should be good to go and Moss will benefit from it!

As every Fantasy Football owner knows, Running Backs are the best way to rack up points for your team. Year in and year out Running Backs go rather quickly off the Draft Board. In 2010, it will be no different. In all likelihood Chris Johnson will be first then followed by Adrian Peterson. There is a new crop of Running Backs heading into their 2nd and 3rd seasons that we are bringing special attention to in this article aptly called – Fantasy Focus!

Each Running Back in this segment has a reason why they will be of better Fantasy value. For some it’s a change at the QB position while for others it’s a change in the system of which they now play.

Here is a list of Backs looking to benefit -

Rashard Mendenhall – This Steeler’s Running Back is going to be the workhorse once again in Pittsburgh but this year maybe even a little more. Big Ben Roethlisberger has been suspended by the NFL for the first 4 games of the 2010 season and as of right now, Byron Leftwich is looking as though he is going to be the Opening Day starter! That can’t be good for the Steeler passing attack. Couple that with the trade of Santonio Holmes and the Steeler passing game is no longer as strong as it once was. Even when Roethlisberger returns, the Steelers will not be as potent in the passing game. Perhaps Mike Tomlin saw this change coming and decided to shore up the Offensive line by drafting a big rugged Center to anchor the middle in Maurkice Pouncey. Any way you look at like, the value of Mendenhall has never been higher!

Knowshon Moreno - The 2nd Year back out in Denver had a fairly good Rookie year considering the Broncos O-line was not built for the system that Josh McDaniels likes to run. The Broncos have put a premium on the Offensive Line this offseason by drafting 3 Interior Lineman all of whom are very good Run Blockers. At the QB position, the Broncos are obviously not sold on the notion that Kyle Orton is the future. They went out and traded for Brady Quinn and then traded 3 Draft picks to move up in the 1st Round and selected Tim Tebow at #25. The Broncos surely aren’t going with 4 QB’s on the roster and it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Orton gone before Opening Day. Factor in that Brandon Marshall and his 100 catch seasons are in Miami and suddenly the Broncos Offense appears to be ready for Smash-Mouth Football. Knowshon has excelled at every level he’s played and he’s worked extremely hard in the offseason to be ready to carry the load in 2010.

LeSean McCoy – The longstanding relationship between the Eagles and Donovan McNabb is over. Enter Kevin Kolb and the Eagles new look Offense. The system will be the same but McCoy is surely going to be more of a focal point for the Eagles offense. Brian Westbrook is gone and while he was injured most of the 2009 season and McCoy was a big part of what they did. You have to imagine the trust level in McCoy has gone up and more of the playbook will be designed around him. As far as Kolb, while I can’t say for certain how he will turn out as the full time starter we can only point to what he’s done in his short time filling in for McNabb during injury. He excelled and threw for over 300 yards in all his starts. Be cautious however! Back in 1993 Scott Mitchell filled in for an injured Dan Marino and played outstanding. The following year the Lions offered him a big contract going off his “fill in” numbers and he never lived up to the hype! McCoy should see a lot of screen passes (a staple in Andy Reid’s Offense) and also get more touches than his rookie year! McCoy is a homerun threat and has a ton of upside!

Matt Forte – Forte suffered a Sophomore slump out in Chicago that can be attributed to a few things. 1. Jay Cutler came in and the coaching staff changed the offensive philosophy from a run oriented – defensive minded team to a Pass happy – throw it all over the lot kind of team. 2. Opposing Defenses knew that if they stacked the box and took away the run that Cutler would force the issue in the passing game and with some pressure he would make bad throws that would lead to INTS, well it worked. The Bears don’t have prolific Wide Receivers but they do have a new Offensive Coordinator in Mike Martz. Martz’s offense is a spread them out with 4 Wide Outs and a single back type system. The TE will be practically obsolete but the Running Back will get carries and catch a lot of balls out of the backfield. In Marshall Faulk’s 1st year in Martz’s offense his Yards from Scrimmage increased 702 yards and in the 2nd year he set the then NFL Record with 2429 yards from scrimmage. Not saying that Forte is the next Faulk but it is worth noting that this new system should increase his production.

Shonn Greene – This RB’s potential increases because Thomas Jones is no longer in New York. The 2nd Year back out of Iowa showed as a rookie that he can run the ball well at the NFL level. Rex Ryan’s Offense will always run the ball so Greene will get his touches, couple that with the fact that the Jets have added Santonio Holmes to the mix and Safeties will no longer be able to stack the box and dare Mark Sanchez to throw. The Jets made it all the way to the AFC Championship game and that success has had to instill some confidence in Sanchez who looks to build off of his rookie success. The Jets won’t be afraid to pass it and then they will look to Greene to pick up important 3rd Downs and TD’s around the goal line!

Ryan Matthews - Normally with Rookies it’s a wait and see type of approach but I’m willing to go out on a limb and say Matthews is the goods! Two reasons I like him 1. He’s probably going to see the bulk of the load. The Chargers didn’t trade all the way up to 12th to draft him if they didn’t plan on using him often. Darren Sproles best role on Offense is as a change of pace type Back who will also need to stay fresh for Special Teams, so Matthews should come in and take over for LaDainian Tomlinson right away. 2. He’s playing with a great passing attack around him! Philip Rivers is a Pro Bowl QB and has talented weapons around him like Antonio Gates and Vincent Jackson. The Chargers love to call Play Action Passes and the only way to sell that is to set up the run! Look for Matthews to put up good numbers in his Rookie season!

The Niners have added some beef to the O-Line and perhaps boosted Gore's value

Frank Gore – Frank Gore already is a beast Running Back and he can’t do much more than he already has but I still like what the Niners did in the Draft. Adding two 1st Round O-Lineman was a great move. First they selected the 6′5” – 323 Pound Tackle, Anthony Davis then 6 picks later they selected the 6′6” – 331 Pound Guard, Mike Iupati!! That’s some serious beef along the line and Iupati is a great Run blocker who open up some big holes for Gore to run through. Add in the fact that the Niners best WR Michael Crabtree has a year (ok a half year) under his belt and the passing game will now have to be respected as well. Frank Gore should put up real good numbers in 2010, he just needs to stay healthy!

These are the guys that you will want to keep an eye on during Training Camp and Preseason. See how they are responding to the new changes on their teams and when your turn comes to select a player in your Fantasy Draft don’t be afraid to make a move to pick one of these Running Backs a bit higher than the “experts” say you should!

Since Week 10, they’ve given up 273.2 yards and 2.6 touchdowns per game to quarterbacks, which equals to the fifth-most fantasy points. Terrell Owens and his partner Lee Evans should gets some good looks. Fitzpatrick, may even give you roughly 20-30 rushing yards.

Cleveland Browns – Chris Jennings The undrafted rookie should do the majority of carries for the Browns down the stretch. Last week against reeling Pittsburgh, the 24-year-old racked a team-high 20 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown. He could net positive results against Kansas City and Oakland over the next two weeks. The two charitable run defenses have allowed a combined 4.9 yards per carry, 181.4 total yards per game and 11 scores to rushers since Week 10. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

If you give him space, he is hella dangerous. Since Week 10 the Broncos have yielded 149.2 total yards per game and four scores to runners. Consider McFadden an upside flex option .

He has averaged six yards per carry this season. Keep watch of Brian Westbrooks possible return, if Westy is a no go, Weaver’s increased workload will continue, the Eagles fullback is a solid option.

Since Week 10, he’s compiled 18 catches for 220 yards and four scores. This week against the rival Giants, he’s likely to score in his fourth consecutive game. On the season, the Giants have allowed the second-most fantasy points to tight ends. Pay the premium.

Cleveland Browns – Joshua Cribbs One guy on the Browns you should own is this man. If he played for any major team who was a playoff contender he would be al over the media . The Browns have finally started to fully utilize his devastating blend of size, power and speed. Last week against Pittsburgh, he totaled 96 yards (87 rushing) on nine touches. Due to Cleveland’s very accommodating playoff slate (at KC, Oak, Jac), his expanded role should remain intact. Another 70-plus total yards are likely this week in KC. Label him an upside flex option/WR3 in 12-team and deeper leagues.

With Devin Hester sidelined last week, the forlorn passer finally got his wish. The results were eye-opening. Targeted 12 times, the former seventh-round pick, who was limited by a quad injury over the first few weeks of the season, reeled in eight passes for 78 yards and a score. With Chicago playing for pride, the coaching staff will give him plenty of opportunities. And with those additional chances, his output could be Bigtime. The Bears face three teams with questionable secondaries – Baltimore, Minnesota and Detroit. Go get him!
It doesnt matter if Null or Kyle Boller takes the wheel for the Rams, Gary Kubiak’s feisty defensive unit, is coming off its finest defensive performance of the season, they should have a big day against St. Louis.
Kansas City has allowed 260.2 yards and 1.8 TDs by air per game, equal to the fifth-most fantasy points allowed.
Cleveland Browns – Jerome Harrison Last week versus San Diego, he totaled 97 yards and two touchdowns along with 7 receptions. His matchup against Pittsburgh isnt the best matchup, Pittsburgh has surrendered just 103.8 total yards per game and five touchdowns this season to rushers, the second-fewest fantasy points allowed. Despite the matchup, Harrison’s workload, versatility and weak upcoming opponents in Kansas City, Oakland, Jacksonville make him a perfect option if you are in need. He should not be overlooked.

He’s a big bruiser, with great hands (59 catches, 535 yards the past two seasons with Seattle). He has averaged six yards per carry this season, and gets the Giants a team he ran for 75 yards and a score against in Week 8. Keep watch of Brian Westbrooks possible return, if Westy is a no go, Weaver’s increased workload will continue, the Eagles fullback is a solid option.

Oakland has struggled defending the pass lately. Since Week 9, Oakland has allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to receivers. If Thomas can get another 6-8 targets out of Campbell, he might have a 50-70 yard/TD performance.

During the past six weeks he’s attracted 9.2 targets, 4.8 receptions and 57 yards per game, including a career-best 10 catches for 117 yards and a score last week versus New England. This week the Dolphins play in Jacksonville, he could definitely post big numbers again. Recently the Jags have been shredded by top targets. Since Week 9 they’ve given up the eighth-most fantasy points to wideouts. Miami loves to run the rock, however with the Jaguars suspect pass defense, Bess should be sitting pretty in your line-up.

Since Week 9,The Lions have given up the the most yards, second-most touchdowns and second-most fantasy points to pass catchers. Clayton hasn’t found the end zone since Week 6 and has eclipsed the 80-yard mark just once this season, If its any time to play him… its this week.

Tennessee’s hopes for a playoff spot were temporarily halted last week in Indianapolis. The Titans did not record a sack or turnover in Week 13, no surprise playing the Colts. This week, expect them to get their mojo back against the Rams. They’ve given up six defensive touchdowns, 2.3 sacks and 2.0 turnovers per game. Back at home and clinging to playoff hopes, the Titans still might have something to play for if they win out.

Other favorable upcoming match ups: (1-10) St Louis Rams, (4-7)Seattle Seahawks, (5-6) Miami Dolphins.

Cincinnati Bengals – Larry Johnson played well this past weekend with 107 yds on 22 carries. Not to shabby for someone who just got aquainted with the offense. Look for him to get continued touches while Benson gets back to form and Bernatrd Scott heals up from his turf toe issue.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Atlanta Falcons – Jerious Norwood- Injuries and a limited workload have hurt his potential. But with Michael Turner once again on the sidelines after reaggravating a high ankle sprain, Look for Jerious to get involved in a big way. No Doubt He will yield carries to Jason Snelling but the shifty rusher’s game-breaking ability and well-rounded skill set cannot be forgotten. Lets get this straight in 50 career games he’s averaged 6.5 yards per touch… just food for thought.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Dallas Cowboys– Tashard Choice last week with just 3 carries mind you, he had 67 yards against the Oakland Raiders. Choice will continue to be the third option in the Dallas backfield. But against weaker defensive fronts, he could get some decent fantasy points. Defensively, the Giants have been hit hard with injuries and with the secondary banged up as well, look for running lanes to open up on the second level. The Giants are also with out emotional leader Antonio Pierce in the middle. Look for for this game to be a perfect opportunity for Choice to get touches.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Miller and the Raiders offense have tough matchups the next two games, but like I said he is the only reliable option for the Raiders.

He had 4 catches for 53 yards against the Giants last week…against Kansas feel safe to deploy Scheffler.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Tennessee Titans – Kenny Britt with Vince Young playing well you have to look at Kenny Britt. We spoke of him the last 2 weeks and he just keeps coming up big. Kenny Britt had 128 yds and 1 big score to end the game. With Justin Gage out of the lineup and the fact that he is Young’s go to guy, this makes Kenny Britt a must pick up.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Panthers Defense have the opportunity of going up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and rookie Josh Freeman. Rookies are always prone to make mistakes. Freeman has been sacked 11 times, he’s fumbled on seven occasions (two lost) and thrown five picks in five games. Carolina ranks 22nd in the league in sacks, but if they muster up some pass rush, they could force Josh Freeman into making some costly turnovers.

If you are looking for a free agent or waiver wire pickup, here are a couple of the best options likely available in your league. With major injuries all around the league its time to get smart and make sure your Fantasy team is ready for the playoffs.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

QUARTERBACKS

Detroit Lions – Matthew Stafford is not playing this week, but if you may need a qb down the road come playoffs when your stud is sitting out, Matthew Stafford might have got some confdence going on from last weeks game passing for 422 yards 5td. Not to shabby eh? Look for favorable matchups if you deploy Stafford. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Tennessee Titans- Vince Young is now 8 for 8 of his last starts. That is 4 straight victories, since he took over at QB for the 4-6 Titans. The improvement is real. Young continues to play with a high level of confidence While he might not be the best passing option, he makes up for it with his legs. Against the Texans, Vince had 73 yards rushing so you know he is always a threat to score on the goal line on a qb sneak. If your at need at QB he may be a safe option depending on opponent.

San Francisco 49ers- Alex Smith could have a big day against The Jaguars who have only 10 sacks on the season and they dont get many turnovers. He has one of the top TE’s in fantasy in Vernon Davis and with Michael Crabtree coming into his own, Smith is a safe bet against Jacksonville. If in need go get Alex Smith!

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________RUNNING RUNNING BACKS

He had 140 combine yards and 7 receptions last week. Go get him while he is still there. He looks like he could average 20 touches a game down the road.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Indianapolis Colts – Donald Brown , With the rate Indianapolis Colts are going in… they look ready to be a lock for home field advantage with a couple more wins. With this potential scenario for the fantasy playoffs, he may be safe to deploy since the Colts are always known to rest players. It would be a perfect time for them to evaluate his talent. If your looking for creative ideas in crunch time, he could be worth a shot.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Cincinnati Bengals – Bernard Scott played well this past weekend with 119 yards an 3 receptions for 32 yards. Look for him to get continued touches while Benson gets back to form and Larry Johnson works his way into the line-up. Keep in mind, his expanded role will likely be short-lived if Cedric Benson is a full go.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

New England Patriots – Sammy Morris- before he got injured he was getting touches. If you cant get Kevin Faulk , your next pick is Sammy Morris in deeper leagues. With one game under his belt he might be ready to get more reps. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

TIGHT END

New York Giants- Kevin Boss Boss has scored 4 touchdowns in his last three games, if he is still there take a look. He may even be worth a trade, if your TE’s have been ineffective, he’s your guy.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A high-upside borderline TE1 going forward, Finley has a dream matchup this week. A must pickup!

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Miller and the Raiders offense have tough matchups the next two games, but like I said he is the only reliable option for the Raiders.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Tennessee Titans – Kenny Britt with Vince Young playing well you have to look at Kenny Britt. We spoke of him last week and he came up big for a score in week 11. If your hurting at receiver he’s worth a look.

If you are looking for a free agent or waiver wire pickup, here are a couple of the best options likely available in your league. With major injuries all around the league, and especially at RB you’re probably thinking… what do i do now?

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

QUARTERBACKS

Detroit Lions – Matthew Stafford is going up against the juggernaut they call the Cleveland Browns. (thats a joke) if your looking for a safe play at any time in the season it would be this week against a team who also just played on Monday night. Look for Stafford to at least go over 200 plus yards and 2 scores.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________RUNNING BACKS

Seattle Seahawks- Justin Forsett had a solid game last week after replacing Julius Jones, who is said to have bruised a lung and broken rib. Forsett is an intriguing gamble because of upcoming favorable matchups against the Rams, Texans and Buccaneers. Forsett proved he could handle the workload with 22 touches, 149 total yards and a score against the Cardinals in Week 10.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Atlanta Falcons – Jason Snelling , is going to get a boat load of touches with Michael turner and his high ankle sprain. Its the kind of sprain you dont want to get as a HB. With superstar Turner injured and in danger of missing at least one game, Snelling is going to be a huge name on the fantasy waiver wire this week. Its a plus that the Falcons also have a great running offense.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Cincinnati Bengals – Bernard Scott could get a nice share of the workload this weekend. With 10-12 touches he could produce generous numbers. The Raiders have allowed the most fantasy points to rushers since Week 6. However, keep in mind his possible expanded role will likely be short-lived now that Larry Johnson is in town and Cedric Benson back soon.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

New England Patriots – Kevin Faulk was effective this past weekend, totaling 86 yards on 14 touches, including a season-high 12 carries – the first time all season that Faulk had more than five carries in a game.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

New England Patriots – Sammy Morris- before he got injured he was getting touches. If you cant get Kevin Faulk , your next long shot is Sammy Morris in deeper leagues. He practiced last week and it was huge news when a reporter spotted him walking without a noticeable limp.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

TIGHT END

New York Giants- Kevin Boss Boss has scored touchdowns in each of his last two games,Eli Manning has looked his way in recent weeks (20 targets through his first six games; 12 targets over his last two), he’ll be facing an Atlanta defense that has given up some numbers to opposing tight ends.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

WIDE RECEIVERS

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Maurice Stovall has filled in decently for the injured Antonio Bryant (knee) , hauling in seven catches for 93 yards and a TD the past two weeks. If Bryant is inactive again , Stovall could match those two-week totals against the Saints.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Tennessee Titans – Kenny Britt had 17 catches for 271 yards through his first four games. A healthy Nate Wahington and Kerry Collins kept him from improving on his solid start, but w that Justin Gage is out with a broken back and Vince Young behind center. He caught only two balls for 55 yards against a tough Buffalo pass defense last week, but he’s got Houston, Arizona, Indy, St. Louis, and Miami over the next five.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

St. Louis Rams – Brandon Gibson the Eagles’ sixth-round pick who came over to St. Louis in the Will Withersppon deal a few weeks ago. Playing in just his second game of the season, he caught seven balls for 93 yards on a team-high nine targets Sunday. With a season-ending injury to Keenan Burton and with last weeks performance it has earned him a starter’s role against Arizona in Week 11, who has allowed the seventh-most points to WRs in standard formats.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

DEFENSE

The Bengals Defense showed you what was up last week. If you watched the Cincinnati-Pittsburgh game, you know the Bengals defense is for real. Their second against the run in the NFL and they scored 22 fantasy points in Week 10 they have averaged 19 points in their last three games. With matchups against the Raiders, Browns and Lions in the next three weeks, the time to pick up the Bengals defense is now.

Josh Freeman is the new captain of the Ship for the Buccaneers. He had a solid performance in his first game as a NFL Starter beating the Packers. The Dolphins are 27th against the pass, lets see if the young man can pick them apart.

ALEX SMITH

With the rebirth of Alex Smith among us grab him while he’s there. He seems to have found a love connection with the rejuvenated Vernon Davis. Davis has his mojo back and is 5th in receiving yards thanks to Alex Smith’s last couple of games.

VINCE YOUNG

Well Vince is 2-0 in his last two starts this season (that makes it 6-0 in his last 6 starts). As the weeks pass look for his confidence to get back on track. If you need a quick fix for the week, he could be worth a look against 3-5 Buffallo Bills at home in Tennessee.

TRENT EDWARDS

Trent is going against the Titans. We dont really know which Titans team will show up, so he could be a plug and play for this week.

RUNNING BACKS

LADELL BETTS

Ladell Betts had a solid game last week after he came in for the injured Clinton Portis. Look for Ladell to be starting for about 2 weeks. If you have followed Brian Westbrookos recent concussion drama, you can guarantee Ladell for about 2 weeks. He rushed for 70 yards on 15 carries, including a 1-yard touchdown, had 1 target and 1 reception for 23 yards. His long was 23 yards.

CHESTER TAYLOR

The Vikings play the Detroit Lions. Look for Adrian Peterson to be out of this game earlier than expected. What does that mean for Chester? Mucho Touches with a side of catches out of the backfield for big gains. Look to pick him up for some instant points.

DERRICK WARD

(LAST GAME) RB Derrick Ward had 3 targets and 3 receptions for 54 yards, and 1 TD . Additionally 2 red zone targets. His long was 38 yards.

DARREN MCFADDEN

Darren McFadden is coming back from injury look for him to be hungry and ready to play.

SHONN GREENE

Look for Shonn Greene to get some touches against a Jaguars defense that is 22nd against the run

TIGHT END

BRANDON PETTIGREW

One thing a rookie Quarterback really loves is a reliable TE. Brandon had 8 targets and 7 receptions for 70 yards, and 1 TD . He also had 1 deep ball. Look for the two rookies to start to gel as the season continues.

WIDE RECEIVERS

CHRIS CHAMBERS

New Home, New Offense, New State of mind. Chris Chambers had 4 targets and 3 receptions for 70 yards, and 2 TDs . He also had 1 deep ball. Look for him to feel important again

ANTONIO BRYANT

New QB under center, Tampa is coming off a big a win, look for Josh Freeman to get him involved. The Dolphins are 27th in pass defense, something has got to give.

TED GINN JR.

Ted Ginn had 3 targets last game and 1 reception for 7 yards. He also had 1 deep ball. Look for him to get more involved. And if you get points for return yards, Ginn is a no brainer.

DONNIE AVERY

Donnie Avery should be on your list if he is still available, look for St. Louis to get behind as they play New Orleans. That means they will pass plenty when coming from behind. Get him in your lineup!

EARL BENNETT

Look for Earl to get some looks and Jay Cutler to air it out. Last game he passed for 369 yds. Against San Frans D look for him to get some opportunities.

ANDRE CALDWELL

Andre Caldwell, believe it or not is one Carson Palmer’s favorite receiver not named Chad. He has some big TD catches around the goal line. He also has 29 receptions for 272 yds. Not only is he the second leading receiver he also is a return specialist.

ROBERT MEACHEM

With an injury to Lance Moore, Robert Meachem has taken advantage of his touches, so much so, he had 5 targets and 5 receptions for 98 yards, and had a 54-yard TD catch. Lets just say he made the best of his opportunities.

DEFENSE

TENNESSEE DEFENSE

Tennessee goes against the 3-5 Buffalo Bills, could be worth a look with them at home…and the Titans are also on a two win game streak. With the return of Cortland Finnegan it has reversed the fortunes of the Titans virtually overnight. Forcing six turnovers over its past two contests, Tennessee’s defense has regained some swagger.

Any questions or you need tips, give me a shout! GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND!

Playing the Matchups – Decision Maker Week 5

Here’s a list of teams and the key numbers you need to know about each defense to decide who is the best start for your fantasy team. These team defenses are listed in order from easiest to most difficult and is based on a combination of points/yards allowed and the team’s offensive effectiveness. You’re in good shape if you see a lot of your fantasy players’ opponents appear on the upper half of the chart for this week. It’s also about time to start planning for a possible playoff run and targeting players who share similar value with easier schedules.

Playing the Matchups – Decision Maker

Here’s a list of defenses and what they have done through 3 weeks this season. I have listed their points allowed in each game as well as their highest and lowest amount of yards allowed. Obviously, a big part of Fantasy Football is playing the matchups and this is a list I have compiled to help with that. Some of the “luck” involved in winning is directly related to how schedules shape up for players down the stretch. It’s good to take an in-depth look at what you can do to make the best decisions in getting the right players in your lineup. Things can change quickly and certain teams will match up more favorably than other teams. So, although this isn’t an exact science, following tendencies and starting players against the easiest matchups will give your the best chance to score the most points. I will try and update these periodically throughout the season.

Team Pts Allowed High Yds Low Yds

The Best Matchups

1. Browns 34, 27, 34 479 310
2. Bucs 34, 27, 24 462 387
3. Rams 28, 9, 36 446 362
4. Texans 24, 31, 31 462 398
5. Chiefs 38, 13, 34 501 420 (Oak 166)
6. Lions 45, 27, 14 515 265
7. Jaguars 14, 31, 24 397 365
8. Cardinals 20, 17, 31 505 203

This Tier is the worst in the league; you should feel most confident about starting your player when you see these teams on the schedule. All of the above have struggled vs. the run and the pass, and have varying degrees of offensive issues, so all positions have potential to be productive. The Cardinals have the best offense of the bunch as well as the best defense, but they can still be a good matchup because of their prolific offense and turnovers they commit. In ’08 they were amongst the most inconsistent teams in the league before making their playoff run and are off to a very similar start. The Lions are able to keep running games in check from time to time and have an improving offense, but will continue to struggle vs. the pass. The Buccaneers, Rams and Browns are the worst defenses at this point between yards and points allowed. The Texans and Chiefs haven’t been much better, although the Chiefs had one game vs. the Raiders where they held them in check (as noted above), but their typical yards allowed number is going to be closer to 400 than 200 each week. They have QBs who can manage the game and aid the defensive side from time to time. The Jaguars used to be known for their defense but have struggled with youth, injuries and inconsistency. After holding the Colts to a moderate game in Week 1, they have been exposed in the last 2 games.

One Sided Defenses

Team Pts Allowed High Yds Low Yds

9. Bills 25, 20, 27 441 353
10. Raiders 24, 10, 23 409 317
11. Panthers 32, 28, 15 449 267
12. Falcons 7, 20, 26 445 259
13. Seahawks 0, 23, 23 379 247
14. Saints 21, 20, 7 463 231
15. Colts 12, 23, 10 403 228
16. Dolphins 19, 27, 17 356 281
17. Titans 13, 34, 24 420 229

This is a tier of teams who have problems stopping either the pass or the run most games. The Bills kept the Patriots in check for the most part in Week 1, then held Brees to no passing touchdowns in Week 3, but have gave up huge chunks of rushing yardage. The Raiders and Panthers are really hurt by their offensive troubles and can be a particularly good matchup for RBs. The Seahawks also have had troubles vs. the run giving up over 200 yards to Gore in Week 2. The Saints, Titans, Colts and Dolphins primary struggles have been against the pass, but they all have the ability to stop the pass and give up the run instead. The Falcons have a young defense that is will give up the pass or run on a weekly basis, sometimes both.

The Most Uncertain?

Team Pts Allowed High Yds Low Yds

18. Packers 13, 31, 17 352 319
19. Cowboys 21, 27, 7 450 271
20. Eagles 10, 42, 14 421 169
21. Redskins 17, 7, 19 381 245
22. Chargers 20, 31, 13 366 289

The Packers are an uncertain because they have a ton of talent on defense, but they have underachieved so far. It’s a new 3-4 defense that still has some 4-3 players trying to adapt. That being said, running a 3-4 can unexpectedly give teams a problem in the passing game. The Cowboys and Chargers both employ a 3-4 and have some similar characteristics to the Packers, like plenty of talent, although the Chargers are without their Pro Bowl NT for the remainder of the season. The Eagles have a great pass rush and outstanding corners, so they can really shut down the pass in some games. They will struggle vs. the run more than anything, but can also be adversely affected by what their offense is doing. When things start to break down, you will see a game like Brees had vs. them in Week 2. The Redskins are a team who would be aided heavily by a better offense. Their defense keeps them in games and the offense seems to lose them. Sooner or later, this team’s morale is going to tank if they can’t get it together as a team. All of these teams have solid talent and the capability to shut teams down from time to time, but all have their weaknesses that can be exposed.

Bend But Don’t Break?

Team Pts Allowed High Yds Low Yds

23. Bengals 12, 18, 20 373 302
24. Broncos 7, 6, 3 307 137
25. 49ers 16, 10, 27 377 283

This is a tier of teams who will have kept offenses in check, but they won’t typically shut down good teams and players. The Bengals offense is much improved over the last few seasons. They aren’t quite the delightful matchup owners used to love to see on the schedule . The same can be said of Denver and San Francisco. None of these teams were looked at on the schedule as a tough matchup, they should now all be viewed as potential “stud killers”.

In For A Tough Day

Team Pts Allowed High Yds Low Yds

26. Bears 21, 14, 19 346 226
27. Ravens 24, 26, 3 474 186
28. Giants 17, 31, 0 378 86
29. Vikings 20, 13, 24 268 246
30. Steelers 10, 17, 17 320 273
31. Patriots 18, 16, 10 276 254
32. Jets 7, 9, 17 299 183

This last tier is a list of teams you want avoid starting your players against. Even “must start” players can be considered for the bench (good examples are Frank Gore vs. The Vikings in Week 3 and Chris Johnson vs. Steelers in Week 1). Matchups and injured players only compound the difficulty of these matchups. These are defenses who can be “stud killers” and really disrupt all positions from producing. Teams have actually moved the ball on the Ravens a little more this season than last, but this is still a solid defense that can really stifle an offense at any point. Same goes for the Giants and Bears. While both teams have injuries to key players, they get after the QB and can disrupt both the rushing and passing game. The Steelers, Patriots, Vikings and Jets have been the toughest matchup for players this season. It’s going to take a great game for offenses to put up big numbers on these teams.
