The Seahawks have made it known that T.J. Houshmandzadeh who was their top free agent signing in 2009, is available and on the market league sources said Thursday. This must mean two things thing…Seahawks like their emerging talent at receiver…and two they don’t want to pay for his big contract after an unproductive season.

Mike Williams, a former first-round draft pick with the Lions, has made noise and looks like he has played himself into the picture at the Wide receiver position after being away for two years from football. They also have young talent in Notre Dame receiver Golden Tate who was a 2nd round draft pick. The Seahawks recently signed Brandon Jones on Aug. 22, who was released by San Francisco.

Right now the market for Houshmandzadeh isn’t very high, basically because his salary. Houshmandzadeh is guaranteed to earn more than $7 million this season. Executives around the league that are in need of a receiver have no interest in taking on a contract the size of Houshmandzadeh’s.

Houshmandzadeh spoke about his situation after Thursday night’s preseason game against Oakland and made it clear he isn’t nervous about his chances of being shipped out of Seattle.

“It’s just like anything, anybody wants to feel wanted,” Houshmandzadeh said, according to The Seattle Times. “So if I’m not here, they don’t want me here, whoever I’m going to wants me. So that’s how you’ve got to look at it. I’m ready to play.”

Its going to be interesting to see what happens now in Seattle. It’s hard to believe that the Seahawks are going to find someone willing to cough up anything for the right to pay $7 million when the reality of it is…the Seahawks are looking to unload him.

If Seattle can’t find someone to take him off their hands, do they bring him back or hope he keeps his cool if they ask him to take a lesser role in the offense? But when you pay a guy that much money, he should be the focal point of your aerial attack.

On Wednesday at St. Elmo’s Steakhouse in Indy Chad Ochocinco bought dinner for 64 of his closest friends (Twitter Friends that is) whom he had never before met. Ochocinco spread some love by treating random people to dinner.

Ochocinco sent an open invite on his Twitter page and folks arrived in droves. The small steakhouse only fit 64 people and it was a full house. It was said that Ochocinco was very cordial and took great care of the employees.

For all Ochocinco fans he has promised future dinner outings at road games, in Atlanta on October 24 and New York on Thanksgiving. Ochocinco says he does this in every NFL city to allow people to see the “real him.”

Ochocinco also brought a special dinner guest, his homie and fellow Bengals wide receiver Terrell Owens aka Batman.

Skinnypost.com takes our Hat off to Chad for treating his fans to dinner and most importantly having fun with his fans. He spent probably close to $10,000 last night on 64 people he didn’t previously know. You can best believe they will not forget the expereience.

Former New York Giants star Plaxico Burress has lost a bid for work release from his two-year prison sentence in a gun case.

The New York state Department of Correctional Services stated Tuesday that they had turned down Burress’ request. This is his second since he started serving his time since last September. Plaxico will be able to appeal the decision but otherwise can’t reapply for a work furlough until next June.

The Department of Correctional Services says Plaxico Burress’ request was denied because of his crime. Burress pleaded guilty in 2009 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon for having a loaded firearm in a nightclub. The gun went off and shot him in the leg.

In the 80′s the fad might have been started by the one and only Michael Jackson, but many NFL players are buying into the idea of using hyperbaric chambers to help their bodies out.

Tim Tebow recently had his hyperbaric chamber shipped to training camp. Tebow has been using the chamber for over two years to help him recover from bumps, bruises and injuries.

Hyperbaric chambers are pretty much all over the NFL these days, Redskins Santana Moss acquired one of the chambers over a year ago for $20,000 and with the help of Moss’ connects, DeAngelo Hall went out and got one for himself too. Santonio Holmes owns one as well as Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones -Drew sleeps in a hyperbaric chamber after each game to help recover his body throughout the season.

Hines Ward naps in a hyperbaric chamber four times a week for preventative reasons and told Pittsburgh reporters it was his “fountain of youth,”Ward credits the device for extending his career.

“It’s really an investment for me, maximizing the potential I have left in my body,” Hines Ward.

Terrell Owens has stated that his chamber helped speed his recovery from a broken leg to allow him to play in the Superbowl when he was with the Eagles.

Dwight Freeney’s hyperbaric chamber became big news last year when he used it to help recover from a sprained ankle before the Super Bowl. Last year’s Defensive rookie of the year, Linebacker Brian Cushing is a big fan of the chambers as well.

The athletes have said that the oxygen treatments can speed recovery from injuries and keep them feeling fresh.

“I get a little bounce to my step,” It helps with soreness, it helps with injuries, it helps with everything,” the wide receiver told me Monday. “I recommend it, but it’s all about your beliefs. Some guys don’t believe in stuff like that.” Santana Moss

Darren Sharper shows us how he uses his Hyperbaric Chamber

By Steve O’Reilly

Up in New York there is a stand-off between two heavyweights. The New York Jets and 2 time Pro Bowler, Darrelle Revis who doesn’t only want to be known as Revis Island but apparently Greenland too! What’s going on here is that Revis feels underpaid after a monster 2009 season that saw him place as runner up in the Defensive Player of the Year award is holding out for a bright new shiny contract. Here’s the thing…the Jets aren’t in a rush to offer that kind of jack! Interesting indeed but the question is, why hasn’t a deal gotten done yet? Well, here are the reason’s that appear to be the stumbling blocks -

1. LEVERAGE - This is always the most important tool when talking contract negotiations, who has the leverage. Right now, surprisingly, the Jets do and here is why. Even though Revis had a fantastic year in 2008 and an even better one in 2009, the Jets aren’t really struggling at Cornerback. They went out and nabbed the Chargers best Corner this offseason in Antonio Cromartie, then in the 2010 Draft selected Kyle Wilson, one of the best cover guys available with their 1st pick. While none of these guys are even close to Darrelle Revis caliber they will more than likely be able to get the job done…which leads us to our second reason.

2. REX RYAN - The guy knows defense, period! He has had great defenses in his years prior to the Jets, like out in Baltimore, and Darrelle Revis wasn’t there then so why does he need to be here now? What Ryan does better than anyone is attack. His scheme is predicated on making the Offense react to the what the Defense is doing. It’s an “Attack and react” defensive scheme. He blitzes well over 70% of the time every game and with constant pressure like that, you don’t really need a shutdown corner to shadow a guy for 4-5 seconds. Instead you need a guy who can jam at the line, throw off the timing and give the hunting dogs up front time to find the QB who in all likelihood is going to find his hot read and get the ball out fast. While having a player of Revis’ caliber is always a great thing to have on your defense, it’s not vital when your scheme is as proven as the Jets.

Darrelle Revis and the Jets have been in a grueling contract war for over 6 months!

3. THE PENDING LOCKOUT - The Jets realize that they can play hardball with Revis for a few reasons. One, as we mentioned they feel very confident in their scheme and two, they know that if Revis sits out this entire season he may be faced with a lockout in 2011 which would mean that he will be away from football for 2 entire seasons!! No player in their prime who is at the top of their game wants to stay away for that long. The Jets know this and Revis undoubtably knows this as well.

4. PRECEDENT - Teams in the NFL have to look at each player and the way they work their contracts as a cannon for the way they will operate in the future. If you show the other 52 guys on your roster that you will renegotiate when they still have years left on their original contract then everyone is going to want to do it. Teams will look to redo deals when a guy is getting ready to hit the open market in order to avoid a bidding war with other teams. As it stands, Revis is technically under contract until 2012. In 2007 he signed a landmark 5 year deal that see’s him receiving $5 Million in 2011 and $15 Million in 2012. However, Revis has the power to void the final two years of his deal. Dicey, dicey and to make matters worse…

5. SEAN GILBERT - Revis’ uncle, former Washington Redskin Sean Gilbert is said to be giving Revis guidance during the negotiation. You may recall that Gilbert sat out the entire 1997 season after refusing the Redskins offer. He’s known to take a hardline stance and it appears on the surface that Gilbert is giving Darrelle the same advice.

6. WHAT’S ON THE TABLE - The Jets have reportedly offered Revis 2 separate deals. First is 10 years, $122 million and the second is 4 years, $40 million. However, it is well noted that Revis wants to be the highest paid Cornerback in the NFL, a distinction that belongs to the Oakland Raiders Cornerback, Nnamdi Asomugha. If Revis feels that he is the best and he wants to be paid as such then this could be a long drawn out battle. His agent has requested that the Jets offer a 10-year, $162 million contract. Putting him at about $16 Million a year and more than the $15+ that Asomugha makes!

What’s the Skinny on the Revis situation? It appears that the standoff will continue until one side blinks and I just don’t see it being the Jets. Rex Ryan may lack some things but bravado and confidence aren’t one of them. I truly believe he feels he can get it done without Revis and with all the other weapons they’ve brought in on both sides of the ball they are going to be just fine. Revis definitely is a great player but it’s unfortunate that he may be tarnishing his image with some fans. I’ve talked to some very close friends of Revis and even did an interview with his good pal John Thornton and I know Revis is surrounded with good quality people. I don’t think he’s being “that guy” about his demands but simply trying to maximize his potential while his value is at it’s peak. The problem is, the team he is on has a coach who will convince the Jets brass that they can definitely do it without him and with the potential lockout in 2011, no one will be away from football for 2 full years and risk losing all the sharpness that Revis is trying to capitalize on. In the end I see a little bend by both sides and the Jets getting a deal done. In a division that boasts Randy Moss and now Brandon Marshall, you need all the Pro Bowl cover talent you can get!
