News & Notes – Week 3 Tidbits

Philadelphia Eagles LogoDonovan McNabb has not been ruled out to play in Week 3 against the Chiefs. McNabb did not practice on Wednesday but says he is getting better every day. Michael Vick is eligible to play this week and the team brought back Jeff Garcia, it will be interesting to see if McNabb can’t play if the Eagles dress 3 QB’s on Sunday. Brian Westbrook didn’t practice on Wednesday due to swelling in his surgically repaired knee. Westbrook is said to be a game-time decision.

Running Back Marion Barber practiced today only days after suffering a Quad injury against the Giants in Week 2.  Barber gave the thumbs up in practice, elluding to him being OK.  Fantasy owners should moniter the remaining practices this week to get a better feel for Barbers availability.

Buffalo Bills LogoBuffalo Right Tackle, Brad Butler will miss the remainder of the season after having knee surgery. Butler played in the game against Tampa Bay but had the surgery this week that will shelf him for the rest of ’09. Wes Welker did not practice Wednesday but reports out of New England are that the Wide Out expects to play in Week 3 vs Atlanta. Welker has been hampered with a bad knee and will likely be a game-time decision. For Fantasy owners, this situation bears watching as Welker is a difference maker on any Fantasy team who has him.

New York Giants LogoDefensive End, Justin Tuck’s shoulder injury that he suffered against the Cowboys doesn’t appear to be too serious but it will keep him out of action for a week or two. Tuck suffered the injury bracing himself on a fall.

It appears as though Matt Hasselbeck will not play in Week 3 after suffering a fractured rib. Hasselbeck took a shot from Patrick Willis on a play he was diving for the endzone. Matt was in obvious pain after the play and it would be very shocking if he did suit up this week. Rib injuries are usually slow to heal due to the fact they can’t be put in a cast to hurry the healing process.

The Tampa Buccaneers have lost Free Safety, Jermaine Phillips for the season. They placed Phillips on IR after he broke his thumb. It was originally believed that Jermaine would be back before the year ended but after doctors reviewed his situation it was determined to shelf him for the year.

The New Orleans Saints report no structural damage to the knee of resurgent Running Back Mike Bell. Bell has come from relative obscurity to provide a great boost to the Saints running game. It remains to be seen if Bell plays this week, Fantasy owners will want to monitor his situation in practice as Sunday approaches.
