Chad Ochocinco gets his shot at Major League Soccer

Just when you thought Chad Ochocinco couldn’t make anymore headlines the Bengal receiver will try his hand or should I say foot at soccer. Chad will take a shot playing for the MLS team Sporting Kansas City later this month.

The club announced Wednesday that after the four-day tryout, they would make a decision whether to extend his trial period. As a kid Ochocinco grew up playing soccer and till this day he remains a huge supporter and fan of the sport. Ochocinco is friends with soccer greats, Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldinho.
Peter Vermes, manager of Sporting Kansas City says “we’re excited to see how his skills will translate.”
With Ochocinco getting a shot on the soccer field he is now able to follow another one of his childhood dreams.

Bengals QB Carson Palmer putting home up for sale

Sorry Bengals nation… if you need any further evidence that your Bengals starting QB Carson Palmer was leaving…This might be the writing on the door.
According to local television station WCPO. Palmer is about to put his Cincinnati house on the market.
“He’s not coming back”, according to a real estate agent who spoke with Palmer on Wednesday.
Recently Palmer has requested a trade and is even willing to retire if one is not granted. Palmer, the No. 1 overall draft pick by the Bengals in 2003, is actually under contract through 2014 as part of a $97 million extension he signed at the end of the 2005 season.
Back at the Bengals front office, they have fired long time offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski , who has been there since 2001. The team has recently brought on Jay Gruden to run the team’s offense.
Since 1990 there have only been two winning seasons and Carson Palmer has been behind center for both of them. After last years 10-6 season the bengals fell to 4-12 in 2010.

The Bengals have announced the hiring of Jay Gruden, Last name sound familiar? He is the younger brother of ex NFL coach Jon Gruden. Jay will take the job as the Bengals offensive coordinator.
“We are excited to have Jay join us and give us a new direction offensively,” Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said. “He has proven himself a consistent winner in a variety of positions and has earned tremendous respect in the coaching profession. He’s going to provide the energy and attacking style that will best suit our offensive skill players and quarterback.
“This is something I wanted to get right, to take the time to make the best decision,” Lewis said, “I appreciate the support I got from (Bengals president) Mike Brown in the process. The offense is where we need to show improvement, and when we do, we’ll show that this team is ready to win the division again like we did just a year ago. Our defense is strong and still improving, and one thing we did in 2010 was to develop a number of very promising new players. Jay is a key addition to this process.”
Jay Gruden was on the Buccaneers staff form 2002 to 2008 as an offensive assistant. He help contribute to the three divisional championship seasons in Tampa, as well as the Bucs Superbowl winning season.
The Bengals offense that finished 20th last year, will try to rebound with Jays help. Last season their offense totaled 322 yards a game and were 22nd in the league in scoring with (20.1)
Gruden won four Arena Football League championships as a quarterback and two as a head coach. In 18 AFL seasons as a player and head coach, he never missed the playoffs.
Gruden was the offensive coordinator for the UFL Tuskers in 2009, they went unbeaten during the regular season with a league-best 30.5 scoring average. In 2010, Gruden was head coach and general manager of the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League.
“I expect great things with the Bengals,” Jay Gruden said. “I intend on bringing a great attitude and work ethic. We’ll build off the strength this offense has developed and add a system to challenge everyone in the building. I thank Marvin Lewis and Mike Brown for this opportunity, and I look forward to working with a great offensive staff.”
Frostee Rucker & The Frostee Challenge
Bengals DE Frostee Rucker with the help of Jock Biz hosted two bus loads of students (70 kids) at Paul Brown Stadium for a tour of the facility and lunch on the field. This was a reward for the students for winning Frostees Challenge, a clothing drive to support the Salvation Army. The students at Oak Hills High School collected over of 26,000 items of clothes in two weeks. 112 homerooms competed in the challenge. This is the second clothing drive that Frostee has hosted for the Salvation Army.

Bengals’ sell-out streak may end at 57!

The Bengals Organization will announce Thursday that Sunday’s game against the Bills will not be available on local television broadcast because the game has not completely sold out, which was reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Thursday.
This is the first time in seven seasons that a game has been blacked out, the last time was on November 9, 2003.
“Sales have been slow this week and not a lot of progress has been made. The pace has slowed considerably,” ticket manager Andrew Brown told the newspaper. “There’s not a lot of momentum right now to move tickets in bulk.”
Whats worse is that may not be the end of the bad news for the city of Cincinatti as Brown has said the only remaining realistic sell-out is the Dec. 5 game against the New Orlean Saints. The Bengals will also host the Browns on Dec. 19, which has sold out every year since Paul Brown Stadium opened in 2000, and the Chargers on December 26th.
Across the league there has been 25 percent more blackouts than last season. Since the season has started, 15 games have been blacked out. At this time last year there were only 12 games that were blacked out.
