Larry Fitzgerald Calls the Shots in Arizona

Looks like all world WR Larry Fitzgerald is calling the shots in Arizona these days.
Larry Fitzergald once called for a new QB and he got Kevin Kolb. Recently he told Sports Illustrated’s Peter King that he wanted the Cardinals to draft Notre Dame’s Michael Floyd with the 13th pick. While some thought the the Cards would go offensive line, they once again listened to Fitzgerald and got Michael Floyd.
Fitzgerald expressed his views to The Arizona Republic on Floyd’s selection
“In this league you have to be able to beat press man coverage on third down,” He is a big guy who has suddenness and can win on third down and make plays in the red zone.”
Both Floyd and Fitzgerald are from the same state of Minnesota which makes the bond a little sweeter.
“And he’s from Minnesota,” Fitzgerald wrote. “Enough said. LOL.”
The Skinny: Fitzgerald knows that the Cardinals need a threat opposite from him in order for them to succeed offensively. The less attention his way…the better. Floyd is a big target (6’3 220) who caught a combined 179 balls for a total of 2,172 yards and 21 touchdowns in his final two seasons at Notre Dame. With his ability, their hoping they now have a reciever who compliments Larry Fitzgerald ala Aquan Boldin. The Cardinals have yet to find the right match until now.
Larry Fitzgerald: Future Free Agent

Espn.com is reporting, that the Arizona Cardinals are talking a new deal with Larry Fitzgerald. The question is…will he end up signing it?
Right now Fitzgerald is on the final year of his 08 contract, this current deal has a clause that does not allow the Cardinals to place the franchise tag on him and it has a clause that does not allow the Cardinals to trade him without his permission. Sounds like the Cardinals are between a rock and a hard place.
“We want Larry to end his career as an Arizona Cardinal,” general manager Rod Graves told The Associated Press earlier this month, “and we are prepared to make him the highest-paid player in team history and one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.”
The talk right now, is that Larry Fitzgerald is happy in Arizona and playing under Ken Whisenhunt. I believe Fitzgerald is the type of guy that wouldn’t let his deal be a distraction to the chemistry of this years team. Larry is, and has always been, a stand up act. The problem still remains that the leverage he has over the organization is huge, as he controls his own destiny. The Cardinals went out and got him a guy that can possibly fill in and be the franchise QB. Key word is possibly. I think the success of Kevin Kolb’s first season with Arizona, will have a lot to do with Larry’s future with the Cardinals.
Will a big contract be the answer to keep Fitzgerald, or will a superbowl ring be the real answer? If he paid any attention to the past free agent frenzy craze for Nnamdi Asomugha services, he knows exactly what he would do to the market if he looked to be a free agent. Every team would be looking for his services, however Fitzgerald would get his chance to choose from a Superbowl contender.
Fitzgerald is a competitor, and last season left a bad taste in his mouth. The only thing that’s going to quench his thirst is winning ball games that lead to a Super Bowl. If that doesn’t happen this year, you might see Fitzgerald sporting a new uniform next season. If the Cards aren’t serious about building a contender, he is gone.

Pros For Africa: Providing HOPE, HELP and LOVE to children of AFRICA
In March of 2011, PROS FOR AFRICA will spend several days in Uganda and Rwanda in an effort to provide much needed medical aid, food, clean drinking water, love and hope to those in need.
In addition PROS FOR AFRICA is excited to announce our partnership with the Starkey Hearing Foundation and Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals. With their help, thousands of children in both Uganda and Rwanda will be given the gift of hearing for the first time.
“Africa may have abundant natural resources, but it is the world’s poorest continent. Much of the poverty can be traced to political corruption and war, but illiteracy and deadly diseases and viruses share much of the blame for Africa’s woes,” says Pros for Africa Founder Reggie Whitten of Oklahoma City. “We are bringing two African countries doctors, dentists and badly-needed medicines. We are bringing Americans that dig wells and purify water. We are bringing food and we are doing what we must for the children and families we touch in Uganda and Rwanda,” Whitten says.
Pros for Africa has created a special YouTube page that can be accessed directly from the Pros for Africa website: http://prosforafrica.com/
The NFL stars include Adrian Peterson, Tommie Harris, Roy Williams, Larry Fitzgerald, Santonio Holmes, Bryant McKinnie, Gerald McCoy, Derrick Morgan, Vernon Davis and Vontae Davis.

Larry Fitzgerald: Adjusting to the ball
CREATE SEPARATION:
If you want to have the freedom to adjust to any pass thrown, it helps to create separation between you and your defender. So explode off the line and sell the deep route. This way when you come out of your break, you’ll hopefully have more space to work in when the pass comes in.
EYES FOCUSED ON BALL:
As soon as the ball leaves the quarterback’s hand, you have to stay zeroed in on the flight of that pass. Don’t take your eyes off it, and don’t worry about the defenders who may be around you. On most receptions you’re going to take a hit anyway, so your priority has to be catching the ball first.
WATCH POINT, CATCH FAT:
The point of the ball is a good spot to zero in on because it’ll keep your eyes centered on pass while it’s in flight. Then when the pass arrives, you want to catch the fat of the ball — the thicker area toward the center that your hands can most tightly grasp. Remember, soft hands on the catch, then a tight grip to secure it.
USE HANDS, NOT BODY:
It’s crucial that you don’t use your body to catch the pass, especially in traffic. If you let the ball get in to your chest, it could easily ricochet off your shoulder pads and into the hands of a defender. So when the ball comes in, keep your hands away from your body and make the grab with your hands. Then take it for six.
BREAKDOWN – NFC West
By Steve O’Reilly
The NFC West is a Division that is wide open and depending who you ask, can be had by anyone. The Cardinals have the most talent, arguably, followed closely by the 49ers. The issue with the Cardinals however is Kurt Warner is gone and the new starter, Derek Anderson, leaves some a bit nervous as to how far he can take them. The Niners are young but made strides in 2009 and if they continue along that path they should be tough to beat, the issue with them is the same as the Cardinals, how much do you trust their QB. In their case it’s former 1st Overall pick Alex Smith. For the Seahawks, they brought in a new Head Coach from USC and some new players to boot but of all the NFC West teams they have the best Quarterback…when he’s upright! The St. Louis Rams also have a #1 Overall pick on their roster and he too plays Quarterback, his name is Sam Bradford and the kid from Oklahoma has been turning some heads. What lies ahead for all these West Coast squads? Let’s take a spin around the Division and break it all down!! Read more
Larry Fitzgerald – A Higher Cause!

As many NFL fans may have noticed, it is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. In order to promote awareness the NFL has asked teams to show their support by wearing pink, either with their shoes, gloves or wristbands. This disease has effected many women in America and this is the story of how it affected one NFL player in particular, Larry Fitzgerald. Read more
Larry Fitzgerald: Pre Kick Off Beast of the Week
Every week the Editors will bang heads and come up with one player that we feel is simply a Beast, a boy wonder, a straight up stud. For our preseason pick we went with Larry Fitzgerald. In the NFC Playoffs and throughout the Super Bowl, right before our eyes, his abilities and talents seem to be peaking and we think he is going to reach that apex and take over the league in 2009. With his partners in crime Kurt Warner, Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston, the offensive firepower shouldn’t diminish.
