Vikings Tells Ponder They Wont Draft QB

After a rough start and finish to a 2011 season, the Vikings were awarded the third overall pick in the 2012 draft after going 3-13.

With the third pick in the draft, its possible that the Vikings could do many of things in that position. Selecting a QB is not one of them, according to Christian Ponder. Ponder was told from the Vikings front office that they would not select a QB in the draft.

After speaking with GM Rick Spielman on Tuesday, Ponder feels confident about the situation knowing he’s the guy in Minnesota. It would be very odd to see a team tie up all that money at the QB position, seeing that they drafted Ponder with the 12th overall pick in 2011. There is no doubt, Ponder played well enough to keep longtime veteran McNabb on the bench, which ultimately led to McNabb’s release. Ponder showed poise and took command of the huddle from day one, but struggled with injuries. On the year Ponder completed 158 of 291 passes for 1,853 yards and 13 touchdowns with 13 interceptions.

“(Coach) Leslie (Frazier) will make the decision on who is starting quarterback. But I have the utmost faith in Christian Ponder,” Spielman said. “The quarterback positions, there’s a lot of growing pains involved. I have the utmost confidence Christian Ponder will be our franchise quarterback.”

Donovan McNabb Will Be Released By His Request

Donovan McNabb will be the new Kyle Orton this week as he’s the latest veteran that’s asked to be released. With teams like Chicago and Texans in need of a veteran starter, I could probably see him playing in the city he grew up in.

McNabb has been granted his release, the only problem he faces is which team will pull the trigger on signing him. Lets just call it the one million dollar gamble here. By asking to be released the Vikings won’t have to pay the leftovers on his current contract.

In this day and age, when he’s been beat out by Rex Grossman, John Beck and rookie Christian Ponder the grass doesn’t look so green. Or does it? While it hasn’t been the best year for McNabb, he’s a pretty positive guy which you gotta admire about him. Others would probably see McNabb’s situation as another stain on his resume, but I’m sure he sees it as an opportunity to live out his childhood dreams if he plays for the Bears.

The most promising part of “Donovan McNabb, The Free Agent QB” is his attractive pro-rated salary which is just under 1.6 million. When you’re a playoff bound team, having a QB under center with playoff experience is beneficial. I don’t think that price should hold back playoff bound teams from pulling the trigger on the savvy veteran.

McNabb is Looking for a Quick Rebound

You know when someone breaks up with someone…they’re always looking to rebound quickly to get their feet back on the ground. Well, take that scenario and apply it to Donovan McNabb’s situation in Minnesota.

Whatever happened last week McNabb needs to forget…the hardest part is the fans and organizations short term memory isn’t built like a football players. But to make a long story short, McNabb needs to prove he can still be an effective NFL quarterback

When the Eagles let McNabb walk it was shock and awe, when the Redskins let him walk it was disbelief. People refused to believe rumors that McNabb’s playmaking days are gone. The tough pill to swallow is McNabb going 7-for-15 and passing for 39-yards against the Chargers. Days like that will get people talking.

The only one who can set the record straight will be the McNabb himself, do I doubt that he will make a comeback. The answer is no. McNabb had a bad game and I believe he will rebound. Right now I can say its just one game, now if this happens this coming weekend we will have to revisit this idea.

McNabb spoke to reporters on Wednesday

“I’m a pro — I’ve been at this stage for a long time,” “It doesn’t matter if I pass for 400 or 500 yards and we lose, it’s still the same feeling. That is the way you have to approach it as a quarterback in this league. You have to have to have short-term memory.”
“Everything that happened last year, I mean they could look at different things. Last year I passed for over 3,000 yards, that’s pretty decent,” McNabb said. “It’s a long season. When this next game ends, they will probably be saying, ‘This is the guys we expected to see.’ “

Donovan McNabb is On The Move

A trade that has made sense to me for the last two years, might just finally happen. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Vikings have interest in McNabbs services. Currently they’ve talked with the Redskins about bringing McNabb on the Viking’s ship. The catch is, the Vikes would have the rights to restructure Donovan’s contract before bringing him in.

At this moment with the state of McNabb’s relationship with the Shanahans and the Redskins front office, Washington should be lucky to get a fair shake. With time playing a factor, its is highly unlikely a rookie can grasp a new system in 3 weeks. McNabbs value as a proven veteran leader, basically gives his old car a brand new paint job. The only problem is he’ll have to share the car garage with a brand new 2011 porshe aka Chris Ponder ok maybe he’s a Audi.

When the Vikings finally feel like taking out the new Audi for a spin McNabb has got to know he’s got to hand over the keys to Vikings ownership to let them make up their minds when the season takes way.

But you never know with a proven running game, McNabb can have some longevity. He’s never had a work horse like Adrian Petersen to hand the rock off to. If he plays lights out, Ponder could in fact, sit and ponder. (I had to) That would be a great dilemna to have for Vikings fans.

McNabb has to figure out whats more important, getting another shot to a ring or looking for another big payday. Chances are McNabb is looking for somewhere he can compete for a starting role that he wont have to give up right away.

I’ve been saying this for over a year McNabb should and will be playing for the Minnesota Vikings this season.

Fast forward to 5:01 :)

Randy Moss for 2011 Patriots WR campaign has begun

In the 2011 offseason Randy Moss is firing up the “Randy Moss for Patriots WR” campaign.

Just 6 months ago Moss was once on the team that he called home for a short period, but after a short rant to the media after a win against the Bengals there was a disconnect between Randy and front office. The patriots organization thought it was time to part ways with the All Pro Randy Moss midway through the season.

Moss had a chance via a phone interview with Vikings radio KFAN AM -1130 to elaborate on the matter.

“I would entertain coming back to Minnesota, but if you’re asking me where my heart is,” Moss told Henderson, “I think just the success as a wide receiver and everything the New England Patriots stand for — I’m a big fan of Bill Belichick, I really am. Not just on the field, I’m a fan of his off the field, because the little grouchy man that you see on camera is not what you see off camera.”

Moss added:

“If you’re asking me where my heart and where I’m happy is, I love playing with Tom Brady. I love being coached by Bill Belichick. And people say, ‘Well Moss, you got traded to Minnesota from New England.’ Well, I just told you all this is a business and people have to understand the nature of the business. It’s not just a sport. The sports comes along with the business. If you really don’t think it’s a business, then why are they sitting there fighting over $9 billion?”

Moss spoke about his relationship with Ex-Vikings coach Brad Childress:

“Me and coach Brad Childress really didn’t have no problems,” Moss said. “I guess I said a few things after the New England game that got my exit out of there very quickly. But I still have love in Minnesota. I’ve grown to love that state, the city of Minneapolis.”

Moss touched on how hard it was for him being traded and released last season was for him.

“I was hurt leaving New England, just as I was hurt leaving Minnesota, which I considered home, feeling comfortable knowing people in the organization, knowing people in the marketing, knowing the fans,” Moss said. “By me just being dropped in one night, I was hurt. … I went into depression a little bit. But I had to suck it up and be a man. I had to put my feelings aside and keep playing football.”

Moss also added that he plans to use his skills somewhere next season.

“I want to play football,” Moss said. “If it’s the Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots — wherever it is man, I just want somebody to respect what I do.”

In the 2010-2011 season Randy pulled in 28 receptions and 393 yards between splitting time with the Patriots, Vikings, and the Titans.
