When you play for a team where the Head Coach speaks his mind as often as he does, its only a matter of time that the team follows suit.
At the moment the Jets are going through some growing pains with the news of them gutting their offensive coaching staff and with players taking personal shots at Mark Sanchez.

The Daily News broke a story that key Jets players have questioned Sanchez’s work ethic and have embraced the thought of Peyton Manning playing for the Jets in 2012, if he was to come available. Read more

Derrick Mason Steps Away From the Game

The long time NFL vet Derrick Mason, stepped away from the game on Monday. He leaves as the all-time leading receiver for the Ravens.

Masons 15th season didn’t go as expected, as he was cut by the Ravens, traded by the Jets, and then released by the Texans all in the same year.

“I’m done,” Mason told Scout.com. “I won’t be playing football. I leave it healthy and able to run and walk and not take a half-hour or 45 minutes to get out of bed. Me leaving now, even though it didn’t happen the way I wanted it to happen, I had a good run.”

In Mason’s career, the 38 year old went to two Pro Bowls, and had 943 receptions which is 11th all-time. Mason had 453 receptions with the Titans where he started his career (1997-2004). In Baltimore he caught 471 passes from 2005-2010.

Mason leaves the game with no regrets, as he always left everything on the field. The savvy veteran plans to pursue a career in broadcasting.

Stevie Johnson tried to get too cute with the above dance and it cost his team valuable field position, and $10,000 out his pocket. In his celebration, Johnson poked fun at Jets receiver Plaxico Burress by mimicking shooting himself in the thigh after scoring on a 5-yard catch late in the first half. Burress got the last laugh as Johnson ended up dropping a key potential touchdown catch that could have gave his team the win. They always say Karma is a B****.

LaDainian Tomlinson salary gets cut in half

Nowadays, if you’re a New York Jet you might be lending a helping hand. When I say helping hand, I mean asked to take a pay cut. For the future hall of famer LaDainian Tomlinson it means taking a pay cut from $2.625 million to about $1.1 million, according to a ESPN.com report.

LT is coming into the second year of his deal with the Jets, and his role maybe limited this year to a 3rd down back type of role. It seems the Jets are going to give Shonn Greene a shot at carrying the weight in 2011.

Last season Tomlinson did more than just contribute, he ended up landing the starting job and put up solid numbers with 219 carries, 914 yards and 6 TDs, 52 catches for 368 yards compared Greene who only had 185 carries for 766 yards and two TDs.

Look for LT to compete like he did last year, I’m sure the savvy vet still has some fight in him.

Cromartie: No Home discount for the Jets

With the labor deal coming to a close, Antonio Cromartie is ready for free agency. He’s made it known to the Jets that he would like to test the market and if he happens to be going back to the Jets it wont be at discounted rate.

“I would love to be a Jet at the end of day, but I also want to go out and see what the market is, see what the value is,” Cromartie told hosts Adam Schein and Rich Gannon on SiriusXM NFL Radio this morning. “To me there’s no such thing as (a) hometown discount; I’m not giving anybody (a) hometown discount. I’m definitely going to see what the organization says, and then also let them know that I would like to go out and test the market and see what my value is.”

Just last year the Jets came to the rescue and actually took care of Cromartie’s financial troubles along with signing him to a one year deal. Now that year has come and gone and free agency is here Cromartie is interested in cashing in while he still can. People forget that Cromartie is also a valuable special teams weapon when needed. On defense, if paired with another talented cb he still holds quality value.

Cromartie knows there will a small window of opportunity to get that deal done when there is a three-day window for teams to re-sign their own players before free agency begins. He knows that teams like Houston,Tampa Bay, Seattle, Arizona, Dallas and Oakland will be looking for a cornerback.

Cromartie believes that Nnamdi Asomugha will set the market for cornerbacks and states it will be smart to wait for Nnamdi’s deal to go through before making his deal.

“If he ends up signing something, it’s going to be better for me also,” said Cromartie, who was traded to the Jets from San Diego in March 2010. “At the end of the day, he’s going to set the market for the corners.”

On the chances of resigning with the Jets:

“the chances are great the Jets are a first-class organization” Cromartie also added that it would be a “great opportunity” to return to coach Rex Ryan’s system and once again play opposite Darrelle Revis.”
