Nike Sues Reebok over Tebow Jerseys

Nike is suing Reebok for selling New York Jets apparel with the name of its new quarterback Tim Tebow on them, according to the AP. Nike is officially transitioning as the NFL’s official licensing partner, supplanting Reebok, and said in the lawsuit that it is the only company authorized and licensed to use Tim Tebow’s name on clothing.

The Skinny: Looks like Reebok tried to pull a fast one to get one last intake on jersey sales with the Tebow landing in New York. Unfortunately Nike said go ahead “Just Do it” and will sue you. I know that attempt at a joke was so lame. I had to.

Rex Ryan: Tebow Could Get 20 snaps a Game

Rex Ryan recently spoke on NFL Network, suggesting that Tim Tebow could most likely get up to 20 snaps a game with the Jets version of the Wildcat.

Lets not forget that Tony Sparano had success with the Wildcat when he had Ronnie Brown running it to perfection a couple of years back. Now that Sparano will look to get back to a power running game in New York, will Shonne Greene be the focus or will it be a combo of Tebow & Greene? The Jets last season didn’t even run the Wildcat over 20 times, which is odd that they’re putting that much emphasis on it in 2012.

The Skinny: Tebow getting close to 20 snaps a game, will probably not sit well with Sanchez, who at the moment is the Jets starting quarterback. Any starting QB in the league doesn’t like to leave the field, and when you say 20 snaps that could mean a third of the projected snaps. Maybe the Jets are posing a challenge to Sanchez in the off season, they always say competition can bring the best out of people. This will def be interesting to watch folks.

Jets & Jags Competing for Tebow’s Services

NFL Network’s Mike Lombardi is reporting that the Jets and the Jaguars both have serious interest Tim Tebow.

NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora believes that to get Tebow it would only cost no more than a fifth-round pick. If that is the market value for his services other teams could possibly be interested.

The Skinny: Owner Shad Khan’s has been a big fan ever since 2010. The Jets and Jaguars appear to be Tebow’s prime targets at this current moment. The Jaguars could use Tebow in a hybrid role and Wild cat option. He would most likely be their 3rd string option at QB behind Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne.

The believed “idea” behind bringing in a guy like Tebow to the Jets, is to build locker room chemistry and perhaps push Sanchez to get better. With the following that Tebow brings to the table (aka Tebowmania) it could be too much to handle for a Jets locker room.

Jets Bring Sione Pouha back

Jets have agreed to terms with NT Sione Pouha on a three-year deal.

During the off season the bringing back Pouha was the Jets main priority. Pouha represents the pure run-stuffer on the New York’s roster and is looked at one of the leagues top tackles.

The Skinny: If the Jets wanted any chance to stop the run in 2012 bringing back Pouha was imperative. For all those other nfl teams looking for a top DT please see Paul Soliai, the market is thin and he’s the best of the rest.

Could Bart Scott Be a New York Giant?

The New York Daily News is reporting that the New York Jets and Bart Scott could be heading for a divorce. Team officials met with Scott’s agent at the NFL combine and Scott’s agent Harold Lewis voiced Bart’s concerns about his role in the Jets defense. Scott was “extremely frustrated” with the way he was used last season.

Lewis revealed that although a potential trade was in the talks, they didn’t request for a trade and they didn’t get permission to seek one. Scott wants to stay with the Jets and that is Scott’s “ultimate goal” for 2012.

However according to Scott’s agent, he added

“If we can’t fix what’s broken, there will be other opportunities.”

Could the New York Giants be a new home for the 32 year old linebacker? According to the Lewis that’s where he would go “in a heart beat”. New York Giants are you listening?

The Skinny: Jets are prepared to move on from Scott, however Scott is owed a guaranteed $4.2 million salary this season. There is no way around that for the Jets unless they get someone to pick up that salary for them. Since he took a $1 million dollar cut in salary in 2011, he got a guaranteed $4.2 million for this season.

Look for the Jets to trade Scott for a late pick in the late rounds of the draft, In which Scott would have to restructure the deal to make the trade happen. If Bart Scott gets cut out right that would be best case scenario, as he would collect from the Jets and also get a new contract from a new team.

With the Jets going for younger blood and a new change of attitude in the locker room, it looks like Scott’s days as a Jet are numbered.

Jets Are Unlikely to use Tag Sione Pouha

Sources have told Newark Star-Ledger that the Jets are unlikely to use the franchise tag on free agent NT Sione Pouha.

Re-signing their top in-house free agent is expected to be a priority for the Jets, but tight on cap space, they would prefer to work out a long-term deal. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets are currently “even” with the 2012 cap. Even at the age of 33, Pouha won’t come cheap after he was arguably the league’s best nose tackle in 2011.

LaDainian Tomlinson on the Jet’s locker room problems.

Tomlinson sat down with Showtime’s Inside the NFL, after watching it sounds as if Tomlinson could be done in New York.

The future hall of famer, speaks on the rumblings that were apparently kept under wraps for a while. When asked about the mood of the Jets locker room, he said it was “as bad as I’ve ever been around, honestly.” Those are big words coming from LT.

Sounds like the Jets have some soul searching to do in the off season.

If you CAN beat em…Join em, and that is exactly what the recently fired Dolphins head coach did. Tony Sparano is now a part of the New York Jets coaching staff.

If there is one coach familiar to teams that need a turnaround, it would be Tony Sparano. He had the fortune of inheriting a 2008 Dolphins team, that was 1-15 and he eventually took them to the playoffs. Read more

When you play for a team where the Head Coach speaks his mind as often as he does, its only a matter of time that the team follows suit.
At the moment the Jets are going through some growing pains with the news of them gutting their offensive coaching staff and with players taking personal shots at Mark Sanchez.

The Daily News broke a story that key Jets players have questioned Sanchez’s work ethic and have embraced the thought of Peyton Manning playing for the Jets in 2012, if he was to come available. Read more
