Randy Moss Speaks to Young Inmates

Unfortunately Randy has had a first hand experience with being a troubled teen, however Moss is taking his negative past and turning it into a positive.

On the football field, Moss led the DuPont Panthers to back-to-back state championships in 1992 and 1993. He was a star at wide receiver and defensive back, returned kickoffs and punts, and was the team’s kicker and punter. In 1994, he was West Virginia’s Football & Basketball Player of the Year.

Off the field growing up in Rand,West Virginia, Randy Moss got into some trouble which paved the way for a slow start to his college career. It first started with a fight with a fellow student at DuPont High School that landed him in jail for 30 days. The fight caused Moss to lose his scholarship to the University of Notre Dame. Moss was expelled from DuPont and eventually completed his education at Cabell Alternative School.

The next year Moss failed a drug test which violated the terms of his probation, which caused him to lose his chance at a college career at Florida State University. Before Randy Moss even suited up for the Seminoles he was kicked off the team. He served an additional 60 days in jail for the probation violation

Moss took two college courses as part of his work-release program and transferred the credits to Marshall University, where he became a Heisman Trophy finalist in 1997.

With all that being said, last week the 34 year old Randy Moss had an opportunity to sit down with a group of inmates at the West Virginia Industrial Home for Youth.

Given his past, Randy’s words hold weight:

“Everybody is entitled to a mistake or two or three,” Moss said of his visit to the facility. “I don’t want them to think my road was easy. I’ve had some bumps in the road.

“I’ve been there. I’ve been where they are. I’ve worn those orange jumpsuits.”

Randy Moss for 2011 Patriots WR campaign has begun

In the 2011 offseason Randy Moss is firing up the “Randy Moss for Patriots WR” campaign.

Just 6 months ago Moss was once on the team that he called home for a short period, but after a short rant to the media after a win against the Bengals there was a disconnect between Randy and front office. The patriots organization thought it was time to part ways with the All Pro Randy Moss midway through the season.

Moss had a chance via a phone interview with Vikings radio KFAN AM -1130 to elaborate on the matter.

“I would entertain coming back to Minnesota, but if you’re asking me where my heart is,” Moss told Henderson, “I think just the success as a wide receiver and everything the New England Patriots stand for — I’m a big fan of Bill Belichick, I really am. Not just on the field, I’m a fan of his off the field, because the little grouchy man that you see on camera is not what you see off camera.”

Moss added:

“If you’re asking me where my heart and where I’m happy is, I love playing with Tom Brady. I love being coached by Bill Belichick. And people say, ‘Well Moss, you got traded to Minnesota from New England.’ Well, I just told you all this is a business and people have to understand the nature of the business. It’s not just a sport. The sports comes along with the business. If you really don’t think it’s a business, then why are they sitting there fighting over $9 billion?”

Moss spoke about his relationship with Ex-Vikings coach Brad Childress:

“Me and coach Brad Childress really didn’t have no problems,” Moss said. “I guess I said a few things after the New England game that got my exit out of there very quickly. But I still have love in Minnesota. I’ve grown to love that state, the city of Minneapolis.”

Moss touched on how hard it was for him being traded and released last season was for him.

“I was hurt leaving New England, just as I was hurt leaving Minnesota, which I considered home, feeling comfortable knowing people in the organization, knowing people in the marketing, knowing the fans,” Moss said. “By me just being dropped in one night, I was hurt. … I went into depression a little bit. But I had to suck it up and be a man. I had to put my feelings aside and keep playing football.”

Moss also added that he plans to use his skills somewhere next season.

“I want to play football,” Moss said. “If it’s the Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots — wherever it is man, I just want somebody to respect what I do.”

In the 2010-2011 season Randy pulled in 28 receptions and 393 yards between splitting time with the Patriots, Vikings, and the Titans.

4 NFL Teams get serious about Moss

The four teams that are the most serious about Randy Moss are the Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans, St. Louis Rams and Washington Redskins league sources told NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi on Wednesday.

All four teams have until 4 p.m. ET today to make a waiver claim on Moss, whom the Vikings waived Tuesday, less than a month after trading a third-round draft choice to the Patriots to re-acquire Moss.
The Rams are highest on the totem pole with a waiver priority list at 13th followed by the Redskins at 15th, the Dolphins at 18th and the Titans are 23rd. The Titans, Redskins and Rams all have a bye this week, which would be the perfect opportunity to work Moss into their systems.

Tuesday it was reported by NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora that the Rams, Dolphins, Titans and Seahawks were considering Moss.

For any of the teams right now that want to pick up Moss, they would have to pay him $3 million in salary if he is claimed. If he does not get picked up, the Vikings will have to pay for his full salary and Moss would then become an unrestricted free agent allowing him to sign with any club.

Its been reported that some people in the Vikings front office knew head coach Brad Childress intended to waive Moss, however the news might not have traveled to team owner Zygi Wilf. Childress has total power over team personnel decisions for the Vikings. Moss’ actions in the locker room and after Sunday’s loss at New England was the reason Childress’ gave him his walking papers.

In Randy Moss’ last words as a Viking, he professed his love for the Patriots and spoke very higly of his old Coach Bill Belichick and his Patriot teammates. He also told the media that he vowed to do future press conferences where he will ask the questions and provide the answers. Moss was higly upset that the league fined him $25,000 last week for not meeting with the media. Moss is obligated by the NFL to meet with the media.
