The Buffalo Bills have signed free-agent QB Vince Young to a one-year deal.

The former third overall pick signed for $2 million with an additional $1 million in playing time incentives. Young who turns 29 this year, had an up and down last season as the Eagles back up QB. He did have some flashes, but on the year he threw four touchdowns and threw nine interceptions in six starts for the Eagles.

“We think adding Vince to our roster will create more competition for the backup quarterback position,” Bills General Manager Buddy Nix told the team’s website. “He brings with him some unique physical abilities that most are aware of and that will make the competition interesting.”

The Skinny: Young will come in and compete with Tyler Thigpen and Brad Smith to backup Ryan Fitzpatrick. Young can give you a spark if he is thrown into a game, and it seems he still has the ability to make plays, it might not be the prettiest, but he gets it done somehow.

After Sunday nights battle with the Giants, what have we learned about Vince Young? We learned that Vince Young, still has that clutch playmaking ability.

Coming up big in big time games, is the reason why the Eagles signed Vince Young in the off season. Knowing Vick’s injury history, the Eagles knew they would need someone to fill in for him in case of injury and last night was a perfect example. If you trace back his football roots to the University of Texas and even with the Tennessee Titans, that’s the one thing that Vince has been known for.

If you saw the first three quarters of football played by Young Sunday night, you could easily say it was an ugly performance. However the last quarter was something of beauty. He came up huge on the final touchdown drive, going 7-for-9 for 67 yards and a touchdown to Riley Cooper in the back of the Endzone. Did I mention he ran off nine minutes of the clock?

On the night, Young ended up throwing for 258 yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions, and completed 64 percent of his passes. I’ll be honest, not a bad performance for having rusty wings.

With Michael Vick still nursing broken ribs, it’ll be interesting to see if Vince Young gets an opportunity to start. As we all know,Vick will make his best effort to play vs. the Patriots. For the time being, hats off to Vince for keeping the Eagles’ dreams alive.

When it’s all said and done Carson Palmer got that move to west coast he wanted. The Bengals kind of got what they wanted, which was a desperate team to over pay. The Raiders also got what they wanted, a big name QB to get under the center for the black and silver.

Palmer sat tight and the cards played out well for both parties, as the Bengals have received Oakland’s 2012 first-round draft pick and a 2013 selection which could end up being another first-rounder.

“This deal is done,” said ESPN’s Chris Mortensen on SportsCenter Tuesday morning.

Mortensen reported that the Raiders were looking at Eagles backup QB Vince Young as a fallback plan, If the Palmer deal could not get done.

The USC alum will now get a chance to take a team with a 4-2 record perhaps on a playoff run. Its quite odd, when his old team with a rookie under center is also 4-2. Maybe they meet up in the playoffs when it really matters.

Jason Campbell’s contract is up at the end of the year, which means Palmer could slide in nicely for the next couple of years. Lets just hope he has something left in tank for Raiders nation to get excited about.

The Titans Senior management has spoken….and they believe its time to part ways with quarterback Vince Young. The only thing is…it’s Bud Adams final decision. At the moment Adams has yet to make a final decision on keeping coach Jeff Fisher as well.

Adams is well aware of the fact that Fisher will not stay if Young remains on the team. GM Mike Reinfeldt met with Adams and SVP Steve Underwood on Monday morning in Houston as Fisher finished up with physicals and held a team meeting in Nashville.

“I will make the decisions that I feel are in the best interest of the team,” Adams said in a statement released just before Fisher spoke to reporters Monday. “I do understand the time element involved and would expect to make these decisions in the near future.”

At the present time Fisher has one year remaining on his contract, and word on the streets is that he does not believe this team is a contender with Young on his team, according to sources close to the coach. Fisher will definitely not back down on the quarterback issue when he meets with Adams.

With Adams staioned in Houston, Texas most of the time it seems there has been a bit of a disconnect with what is going on in Nashville behind the scenes. Fisher has repeatedly stated his case and has said publicly that he wants to stay in Nashville.

If all does not work out in Tennessee look for Fisher to doing a year in broadcasting if he can perhaps get out of his contract or better yet a new coaching gig. With 16 years under his belt, Fisher is the longest-tenured coach in the NFL. Many teams will come knocking for his services

Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher made it known that Vince young will need season-ending surgery on his throwing hand and that they will be putting him on injured reserve in the next couple days.

Vince Young was able to see a hand specialist on Monday, Titans Doctors recommended surgery to fix Young’s torn flexor tendon in his right thumb. Young was injured in the third quarter of Sunday’s game.

“He may want to get a second opinion. He may want to get two dozen opinions. Our doctor said for his position, it needs to be fixed,” Fisher said.

Rookie Rusty Smith will be the starter against Houston this coming Sunday. Smith is a sixth-round pick out of Florida Atlantic, and Tennessee is bringing in Chris Simms to back up Smith while Kerry Collins heals up for a couple more weeks with a strained left calf.

Fisher stated that even if Young was healthy enough to start, he would not play this Sunday because of his behavior after the game when he tossed his pads into the stands. A security guard, later had to go retrieve his shoulder pads. Then after the game Young had a heated argument with Fisher in the locker room following the loss, then he left the premises.

Owner Bud Adams had talked to Fisher and Young and told them to “get this thing settled” and work together to make matters better. Adams stated that Vince Young told him he wanted to return to the game. Bud Adams seems pretty adamant that he isn’t going to release the former No. 3 overall pick.

“Oh, God yeah. He is under contract. I wouldn’t want to let him go. We are going to pay him a lot of money,” Adams told Tennessee newspapers of Young who is due to receive $8.5 million in 2011.

Both Fisher and Young are under contract, and from what it looks like from the outside, both are not on the same page. Fisher’s contract also runs through 2011, he is in his 16th season which is the longest tenured coach in the NFL.

“My focus is on this football team. He’s not going to play anymore games for us this year because of the injury. We can deal with all that when the season is over,” Fisher said of trying to repair the relationship with Young.

By Steve O’Reilly

For many years now the South has been under the rule of King Peyton Manning, he and his men have taken control of the Division in 2003 – 2007, the Titans took it in 2008, than the Colts again in 2009. That’s quite a while, but when you have great Wide Receivers, a great O-Line and a future Hall of Fame QB then you would expect nothing else. For the other teams, it’s really been a matter of how to knock them off their perch. The Texans have tried to build a team that can compete with them on an offensive level while the Titans are almost the exact opposite. Tennessee likes to control the game on the ground and play smart, ball control style offense that hopefully will keep Peyton on the sidelines. Jacksonville has tried to do with Defense and a solid running game as well. The problem is, no one has been able to do it yet, save the 08 Titans that went 13-3 and one game better than the Colts. So what does 2010 have in store for this Division? Standard operation perhaps but maybe not….let’s Breakdown the South!!

Indianapolis Colts – First let’s look at the looming “Super Bowl Hangover”! Since 2001, the teams that have lost the Super Bowl haven’t faired too well the following season. In ’01 the Rams lost to the Patriots and in 2002 they went 7-9. In 2002 the Raiders lost to Tampa Bay then the next year they went 4-12. In 2003 the Panthers lost to the Patriots then the following season they went 7-9. In 2004 the Eagles lost to the Patriots then the next year they went 6-10. In ’05 the Seahawks lost to the Steelers than they were able to go 9-7. The 2006 Bears went 7-9 after losing to the Colts and the ’07 Pats did go 11-5 but didn’t make the Postseason. In 2008, the Cardinals were able to go 10-6 but fizzled in the Postseason which leads us to the 2009 Colts who lost to the Saints in what was a fantastic Super Bowl! Will they suffer a “Hangover”? No, and here is why. Peyton Manning is too good and demands too much from his team. They have essentially, a coach on the field and Manning commands the best from his guys. What’s changed for the 2010 Colts that they didn’t have in 2009? The feeling is they are going to run the ball a bit more. Joseph Addai and Donald Brown provide a nice 1-2 punch in the Running Game and the pass catchers like Dallas Clark, Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon will all be fine. The Offensive Line was retooled this offseason in an effort to get bigger at the Point of Attack. Undersized Guard Ryan Lilja was released and they went after bigger and beefier guys upfront. They have endured some injuries but Jeff Saturday, the longtime standout Center is back and practicing. On Defense, the Colts went out and drafted Defensive End Jerry Hughes from TCU. A former All Pro Defensive Lineman told me well before the draft that Hughes has all the right techniques and his upside is unlimited! Pretty big words but the truth is, Hughes could eventually be the new Dwight Freeney. Quick and agile in getting after the QB. The Colts won’t veer too far from their style, which is score fast and have Defenses that pressure you while you try to catch up. Not to beat a dead horse, or Colt, but as long you have 18 behind Center…you’re gonna be fine!

Player to Watch – Bob Sanders – The guy has never played a full season and the injuries have to be wearing on him physically at this point in his career. However, when he’s in there the entire Defense is better!!

Schedule – Wins: Giants, Broncos, Chiefs, Redskins, Texans, Jaguars, Raiders, Titans, Titans, Jaguars
Losses: Patriots, Chargers, Texans
Could go either way: Cowboys, Bengals, Eagles

Prediction – 11-5 (1st AFC South)

The Skinny: Once again you can’t count out the Colts. Too many weapons and too well coached to not be considered the favorite going into the year. Manning was left with a bad taste in his mouth and I’m sure his fire is even stronger, if that’s possible!

Houston Texans – This team is the one team that really can give the Colts a run for their money. Here is why, in the NFL most Defensive players take some time to develop. Especially along the Line and in the secondary but immediate returns can be found at Linebacker, hence the 9 straight years a LB has won DROY. Looking back at the Texans drafts over the last half a decade and you have to believe that all the first round talent is finally starting to mature into men and they started to show it last year. Guys like Shaun Cody, who was drafted by the Lions in Rd. 2, and Amobi Okoye should be ready to provide that boost up the middle at Defensive Tackle. Mario Williams, the #1 overall pick taken a few years back is really hitting his stride as well. Linebackers Brian Cushing, Xavier Adibi and DeMeco Ryans all have the speed and power you like from the position. The Secondary might take some lumps however. Their Cornerbacks are not household names but Rookie Kareem Jackson from Alabama should be a contributor right away and is listed as a starter on the teams Depth Chart. Offensively, the Texans are a straight up scoring machine! Matt Schaub to Andre Johnson is one of the best tandems in the NFL and Johnson is in my opinion the best WR there is right now. Owen Daniels adds a nice threat from the Tight End position and Arian Foster is proving to be a good and versatile Running Back. The Zone Blocking scheme that Kubiak brought with him from Denver is one of the best ways to run the rock! The key for this team is stopping the pass. The Secondary would be greatly benefitted from a pass rush and they will have that. Young at Cornerback and not very talented at Safety are the biggest concerns. Teams might light the Texans up in the passing game!

Schedule – Wins: Colts, Redskins, Raiders, Giants, Chiefs, Titans, Broncos, Jaguars, Jets
Losses: Colts, Ravens, Cowboys, Eagles, Chargers
Could go either way: Titans, Jaguars, Eagles

Prediction – 10-6 (2nd AFC South – Battle out the final Wildcard spot with the Bengals)

The Skinny: The Texans score a ton of points and are improving on Defense. They showed that last year and they went 9-7. With one more year in the system, Matt Shaub should be that much better and the addition of Arian Foster should really bolster the running attack. It allows Steve Slaton to come off the bench and be a change of pace back and help the Offense score, which they do! Defensively, the Front 7 is fine, the Secondary is a concern. Eugene Wilson and Brian Pollard leave me a bit hesitant to pick the 10 win mark and inexperienced Corners don’t help. They need to apply pressure and make QB’s throw before they want to or else every game will be slug fest. Some they’ll win, and some they wont!

Tennessee Titans – The Titans enter 2010 riding a high from the way they finished 2009. They started off 0-6 and finished the season at 8-8, not too shabby. Led by the best Running Back in all of football, Chris Johnson the Titans offense runs through him. He is a threat to score from anywhere on the field and that’s the type of Back that really can open things up for the offense. The onus of this teams success however falls on Vince Young. If he continues to progress than the Titans can go far. They play a smashmouth style with flair. They have a predetermined notion to pound the ball at you but have weapons with speed and elusiveness while doing it. The Offense is very average even with the best Running Back in the league. In 2009, CJ went for 2000 yards and they still were only a .500 ballclub. That tells you that more is needed to win and that “more” starts on Defense. Versus the Patriots on a snowy day in New England Tom Brady lit up the Titans secondary like never before. The Patriots had 5 Touchdown passes in one Quarter on there way to a blowout win. The Titans Defense honestly hasn’t been the same since the departure of Albert Haynesworth. What’s worse is workhorse Kyle Vanden Bosch is now with the Detroit Lions and the D-Line doesn’t really boast any true threat. They drafted Derrick Morgan in hopes he would be the Sack man they need and he just might be but we have to see it first! Also departed is the heart and soul of the middle, Keith Bullock. In his place is Stephan Tullock who will have big shoes to fill. The Secondary is the biggest question mark. Jason McCourty is the lone new face and he joins Cortland Finnegan, Michael Griffen and Chris Hope. This unit needs to play better than it did a year ago. The Defense finished 28th in the NFL and ranked 31st against the pass. In a Division that boasts the passing attacks of the Colts and Texans, that just won’t get it done!

Player to Watch – Vince Young – the QB out of Texas is no longer a New Jack and he needs to show veteran leadership and take this team by the horns. The leaders of yesterday are gone and it’s Young’s job to be that guy. With Johnson in the backfield it makes it a bit easier for you but Young needs to spread the ball around, not make mistakes and showcase the talent that we all saw at the end of 2009!

Schedule – Wins: Jaguars, Texans, Chiefs, Broncos
Losses: Cowboys, Eagles, Chargers, Dolphins, Colts, Colts, Texans
Could go either way: Giants, Redskins, Raiders

Prediction – 6-10 (No Playoffs)

The Skinny: The Titans simply haven’t done enough to bolster their passing game or secondary. They made some nice additions to the D-Line through the draft but that might take some time to show returns. The 28th Defense lost two big leaders in Vanden Bosch and Bullock and the Secondary is almost the same unit that it was last year. If Vince Young can be dynamic and ride that wave of momentum last year than they might be able to do somethings, other than that…just hand it off to CJ and run him till the wheels fall off!

Jacksonville Jaguars – The team that could have helped themselves the most by drafting Tim Tebow, didn’t. Instead the Jaguars still will have trouble filling seats and until the Defense shows up like they used to, than that might be a tough task. The Running game with Maurice Jones-Drew is solid, the passing attack with David Garrard is average. Mike Sims Walker is a rising player who might have a breakout year in 2010 but with questions along the O-Line are the biggest worry. Garrard and Co’ were sacked way too many times, nearly 50 on the season and the Jags focused heavily on Defense during the 2010 Draft. With their first 4 selections, they went Defensive Tackle, Defensive Tackle, Defensive End and Defensive End. Gone is big John Henderson, off to Oakland and Marcus Stroud who actually left the year prior. They did bring in Kirk Morrison from Oakland after the Raiders took Rolondo McClain the became expendable. Morrison is a better than average Linebacker and should add some pop to the middle of the D’. The young line has talent, with ’08 1st Rounder Derrick Harvey at Defensive End playing next to this years 1st Rounder, Tyson Alualu. Aaron Kampman also rounds off the front 4 at the other Defensive End spot to give them a solid but unproven Front 7. The Secondary is still raw and gave up too many big plays. The Safeties are in flux and without a viable pass rush they could be exposed even more. The Jaguars really need to hope that Aaron Kampman returns to his old form after a knee surgery in December. The biggest questions about the Jags however is the offensive firepower. Gone is Torry Holt and after Sims Walker and Mike Thomas the units production drops off drastically. The O-Line should be better at the Tackle positions with Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton having a year under their belt. The two Guard spots and Center are still big question marks and that must improve for this team to be better than it was in 2009.

Player to watch – Derrick Harvey – The 3rd year player has to show the Jags the pass rush that they envisioned when they selected him in the 1st Round. The team is very high on Alualu and if his energy level and play continues to impress than Harvey might see more One on One matchups vs the Tackle. Without any form of Pass Rush the Secondary will be exposed and could make for a long year in 2010.

Schedule – Wins: Bills, Titans, Redskins, Chiefs, Browns
Losses: Chargers, Eagles, Colts, Broncos, Colts, Colts, Titans, Texans, Cowboys
Could go either way: Raiders, Texans

Prediction – 5-11 (No Playoffs)

The Skinny: This team needs to start filling seats and the best way to do that is to win. Rumors have been swirling for a few seasons now that the City of Los Angeles really wants a team again and most people in the know say Jacksonville could be that team. The Secondary is a big question mark as is the O-Line. Garrard is capable and Mike Sims Walker could be a blossoming start. Maurice Jones Drew had a tough Preseason but will be fine and produce like he always does. It’s a tough division and their overall schedule looms difficult.
