On Monday NFL commissioner Roger Goodell appeared in Jacksonville and told the league that he is committed to having the Jaguars stay in Jacksonville. But good ol Roger said that local fans need to buy more tickets to help to make sure that the Jaguars’ future is still in Jacksonville.

“The NFL wants to be part of the future of this city,” Goodell said in an address to business leaders, via the Florida Times-Union.

Last season the Jaguars had seven games blacked out because they did not sell out. Wayne Weaver, owner of the Jaguars noted they have already sold more than 13,000 season tickets this season, He said about 5,000 more need to be sold to help prevent blackouts this year.
“If it’s a one-year blip due to a perfect storm, then this is a great opportunity to demonstrate that,” Goodell said of last year’s blackouts in a negative economy.

“We want the team to be successful and we want it to be here. We just want it to play in front of sold-out audiences.”

Los Angeles has been often been mentioned as a potential home for the Jaguars if they happen to move. But Goodell’s preference is for the Jaguars to remain in Florida.

Goodell was asked if sellouts this season would keep the team in Jacksonville.

“I think this team is going to continue to be successful here,” he said in response. “I believe they will support the team. The team wants to see a full stadium, the players want to see a full stadium, the league wants to see a full stadium and I think the community wants to see a full stadium.”
