The New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts will take the field in Miami on February 7th for Super Bowl XLIV. With the game still a few days away, we thought we’d tide you over with a few fun facts related to the 2010 Super Bowl game. Happy Reading!

AT STAKE — National Football League Championship for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

PARTICIPANTS — Indianapolis Colts (AFC) and New Orleans Saints (NFC). This the fourth appearance for the Colts and the first appearance for the Saints.

SITE – Sun Life Stadium, Miami Gardens, Fla. This is the 10th Super Bowl played in Miami and the fifth at this stadium.

SEATING CAPACITY — 74,000.

DATE – Feb. 7, 2010.
GAMETIME — 5 p.m. CT.
NETWORK COVERAGE — By CBS-TV to more than 200 stations throughout the United States.Westwood One Radio to 600 stations within the United States. The Armed Forces Television will also provide broadcast to 175 countries throughout the world. The game will be distributed internationally by the NFL and NFL International to more than 185 countries and broadcast in 30 different languages.

MONEY:
PLAYERS SHARE
— Winners: $83,000 per man. Losers: $42,000 per man.
PLAYER UNIFORMS — Indianapolis will be the home team and use the South sideline. The Colts have their choice of wearing its colored or white jersey.

SUDDEN DEATH — If the game is tied at regulation time 60 minutes, it will continue in sudden death overtime. The team scoring first (by safety, field goal, or touchdown) will win.
At the end of regulation playing time, the referee will immediately toss a coin at the center of the field, in accordance with rules pertaining to the usual pre-game toss. The captain of NFC team (the visiting team) will call the toss. Following a three-minute intermission after the end of the regular game, play will continue by 15-minute periods with a two-minute intermission between each such overtime period with no halftime intermission. The teams will change goals between each period, there will be a two-minute warning at the end of each period.

OFFICIAL TIME — The scoreboard clock will be official.

OFFICIALS — There will be seven officials and two alternates appointed by the Commissioner’s office.

VINCE LOMBARDI TROPHY — The winning team receives permanent possession of the Vince Lombardi Trophy, a sterling silver trophy created by Tiffany & Company and presented annually to the winner of the Super Bowl. The trophy was named after the late coach Vince Lombardi of the two-time Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers before the 1971 Super Bowl. The trophy is a regulation silver football mounted in a kicking position on a pyramid-like stand of three concave sides. The trophy stands 20 3/4 inches tall, weighs 6.7 pounds and is valued more than $25,000. The words “Vince Lombardi” and “Super Bowl XLIIV” are engraved on the base along with the NFL shield.

ATTENDANCE – To date, 3,347,608 have attended Super Bowl games. The largest crowd was 103,985 at the 14th Super Bowl at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

The Super Bowl XLIV game will be televised in 30 languages to more than 185 countries world wide.

Total expected attendance at the Sun Life Stadium for Super Bowl XLIV is 75,000 people.

A total of 62 commercials will air on Super Bowl Sunday, each of which cost between $2.5-$3 million for a mere 30 second spot.

These nine highly anticipated movies will air trailers during Super Bowl XLIV: Alice in Wonderland, Wolfman, Robin Hood, Despicable Me, The Last Airbender, Shutter Island, Iron Man 2, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Toy Story 3.

The total weight of The Saints’ starting defensive line is about 1,167 pounds.

Here’s some irony… Peyton Manning’s dad, NFL quarterback Archie Manning, made his debut in 1971 for the New Orleans Saints.

Entertainment for Super Bowl XLIV includes: Queen Latifah’s rendition of “America The Beautiful,” Carrie Underwood singing the National Anthem and The Who at halftime.

The Who are the first band known for destroying their instruments at the end of a live show and were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990.

It’s estimated that 6 percent of Americans will call in sick or report to work late on the Monday after Super Bowl XLIV.

Saints running back Reggie Bush’s top speed in the 40-yard dash is 18.7 mph.

Because local Indianapolis school bus drivers had a tough time getting to work at 5:30 a.m. after The Colts’ last Super Bowl game, public schools and bus activity will commence one hour later on Monday, February 8, 2010. However, Catholic schools in Indianapolis will have the entire day off in honor of the Super Bowl XLIV.

In a related finding, New Orleans Parish Civil District Court Judge Michael Bagneris ordered a Feb. 1 jury trial delay in light of the New Orlean’s Saints historic trip to the 2010 Super Bowl. His statement read, “The court takes judicial notice that Saintsmania permeates the city of New Orleans…”

The most potato chips consumed on Super Bowl Sunday are said to be done by the states of New Mexico and Virginia.

The estimated cost to South Florida for hosting Super Bowl XLIV, including increased police presence, clean-up, etc. will total $8 million.

The estimated benefit to South Florida, as measured by additional revenue to hotels, restaurants, and other spending will total $353 million
